WordPress "save" function not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I know it’s the weekend and you won’t be back until Monday. I noticed that now there’s a new feature that shows the visual attachment onto the draft instead of the code. BUT!!! When I wanted to edit the text of the draft, it was nowhere to be seen. I hope someone else reports this too because it’s wacky now not to be able to access the TEXT when you’re in draft edit mode. H-E-L-P!!!!

Hi, the wordpress website is haywire. The right hand column of my blog is missing. The edit mode doesn’t show the text to edit, just the picture. Please confer and see if this is happening to others as well. Thanks

Hi, this is an update of what just happened with my new post, “fresh”. Twice, the edit function went back to a preceding version with the version I wanted to print. Once, the “save draft” button was nowhere to be found. When it was published, I received a copy of the post in my email but it DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE BLOG!!

The right hand column of the blog was restored a few minutes ago, but the blog is still showing “dumpster” rather than “fresh.”

The many format/icon changes that are going on are messing with the functionality of the website. I hope a team of people will fix it soon.

my blog is still not showing the latest post, “fresh”. I have received a copy of “fresh” on my email because I follow the blog (just in case) so it seems to have been “published” although not showing on the blog which shows “dumpster” as the current post. Thanks

  • Howdy,

Oh no! Sounds like the weekend wasn’t good for you, at least in a blogging sense! Does your media uploader work ( https://uncommonhours.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php ), uploading them there is likely the easiest all the way around.

If not, you can send them to support@wordpress.com with a subject of “For Kraft: mulberryshoots”. Please attach, and not simply copy/paste the screenshots into the body of the e-mail.

In the meantime, I”m asking the team for some input on the various possibilities since this is rather odd and we haven’t seen other reports like this before.

I notice the latest post is still marked a Draft, which sounds bizarre if you received the e-mail. Thanks again for your patience.

  • I fixed the sidebar issue—there was a little stray HTML in http://mulberryshoots.com/2013/08/10/doing-her-own-thing/ that threw off things a bit.

    Thanks again for your patience.

Thanks, Kraft. I see that “fresh” is also showing on the blog now. What was up with that?

  • I don’t have a “why” yet, but it was re-saved in the draft status. I simply republished it.

For that last post (fresh), were you only editing it in one window/tab? I haven’t been able to duplicate this yet, though.

    Thanks again.

Hi Kraft, the version that you manually “republished” on my blog is NOT the final version. Please compare it with the one that I emailed you from my email address. That’s what has been so frustrating. The “save draft” function is malfunctioning. And it’s not me, it’s the program.

  • Hi,

I’m looking at this. I was able to go to the Revisions page for that post ( https://uncommonhours.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=8953 ) and use the slider to move back to what appeared to be the intended version of the post.

It seems that the revisions are being saved, but then a second save of the previous version is occurring. The only way I’ve been able to duplicate this so far is by:

    • Edit the draft as usual. Save/preview.
    • A new tab opens with the preview. I click edit on that window, which opens up an editor on the second tab.
    • Make edits and save. Close the 2nd tab.
    • In the first tab that had the original work, click Preview (not Save Draft).
    • In showing the preview, it saves the first editor’s content, which in effect, erases the edits.

. Since I understand that isn’t what you’re doing, I’ve been able to duplicate to find a bug in the program.

If the “save draft” button isn’t visible, do you see a Publish line? If you can click on that to re-expand those options.

Here’s the thought train currently: Since I can’t duplicate it and I believe that you’re not saving an older copy from another tab or something like that, we’d like to rule out browser issues on your computer.

    Could you try:

    • Empty the cache for your browser (Instructions) and try again.
    • Can you confirm to me that you’re using Google Chrome? Have you tried using Safari or Firefox? Same result?
    • Can you visit http://www.isjavascriptenabled.com/ and confirm that Javascript is enabled on your system?

I really appreciate your patience as I would be beyond frustrated if I were in your shoes.

I’ve emptied my cache a number of times during this ongoing saga. I’m using Google Chrome and it didn’t happen to me before on Safari or Firefox, but I’m not going to go on those right now just to see if it’s Google Chrome. And yes, Javascript is enabled on my system.

Next? I would be frustrated if you guys thought it was ME and My Computer rather than WORDPRESS and some glitches in your operating system, esp. since (suspiciously) you are instituting new icons and the photo feature in the draft process which didn’t exist before. Somebody needs to go back and untangle whatever HTML is missing or mistakenly written.

  • Good morning,

I’m still trying to duplicate this issue on my end to confirm where a bug may be and we haven’t had other reports so far that match this.

Once we’re able to duplicate, we can look at determining the cause. One reason I asked if it happened for you on other browsers is to either rule out either a possible bug in a Chrome or give us evidence that there may be a specific issue while using the site with Chrome.

Thanks for your patience and cooperation. The more information we have, the faster we can determine what is going on.

Kraft, have you looked at why my latest post, “after” has appeared as published on my email, but still has not shown up as published on the blog? If not, please kindly manually post the version that appears on the email. If you need me to send it again, let me know. Thanks, Katherine

  • Hi Katherine,

Already done. It appeared from the e-mail you sent in that the latest revision matched the e-mail, so I simply clicked publish on that one. If this happens again, does it actually publish if you click publish on the post after discovering it wasn’t displaying on the site?

    Thanks again for your patience.

  • Unknown's avatar

The previous time, the latest revision did not match the email. If it happens again (which I hope it won’t) I will try clicking the publish button a second time.

Would be better though when the function is corrected. Thanks.

  • Of course, our goal is for your site simply to work as expected. I’ll keep trying to duplicate the problem so we can find a fix.

  • Unknown's avatar

So, will you let me know or do I have to keep posting to test whether it’s working properly?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just wrote a post and avoided saving the draft altogether until it was ready to publish. I just minimized the draft while searching online, and entered the category, tags and media, then saved it for the first time and previewed it. It was fine and so I published it. The post appeared on the blog. I still do not see access to “all posts” etc. when I hover over the title of my blog. Instead, I’ve bookmarked the dashboard that you kindly provided and that’s the only way I can access it apart from the blog itself.

So, just wanted to send you this update. thanks for your help.

  • Thanks for the additional information. I’m going to keep trying to duplicate it and will let you know if/when I’m able.

The closest I’ve come, basically, involved clicking Preview without clicking Save Draft first, then clicking Edit for the post on the preview screen, which would bring up the last saved post (instead of the last autosaved post, which is what the preview was taken from) and if that was saved, it would have override later changes.

That doesn’t fit everything, specifically a published post disappearing/not appearing and your report of not using multiple tabs, so back to the drawing board.

A dashboard link not appearing when hovering your mouse over the blog title is a head scratcher as well and can’t duplicate it, short of disabling Javascript or mimicking a connection problem. In either of those cases, there should be a lot of other problems that would be obviously (to us here at least) connected.

    Again, thanks for your patience.

Hi BJ, thanks for hanging in.

I never preview without “saving draft” first. I am religious about that. This time, I only saved the draft once prior to preview once and then publishing.

The dashboard thing not being visible is really annoying. But I’ve bookmarked the dashboard thanks to you.

BTW, I’ve emptied out cookies, rebooted any number of times and shut my computer down during this long-running saga.

    Good luck!
