WordPress 'Search' how does it work?

This may sound stupid, but how do people from outside wordpress find our blog (without the URL)? We only ask because we have had people say “we put your blog name in the ‘search wordpress.com’ search but your site didn’t appear”. Or, “We have searched through the Postaday2011 tags – how come you are not on there, but there are other blogs that are posted more than once?” Unfortunately, we do not have the answer to those questions, so we thought we should ask you guys. We post, new, original posts every day, we use appropriate tags, we visit and comment on other people’s sites, etc. etc. In short we have done everything we have been advised to do, yet people still cannot find us. How can we ensure that we are easier to find?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I believe the WordPress.com search function only searches Posts, it does not search on blog names.

Searching Google for “Yarpnews” gives about 2,820 results with your home page as number two on the page.

Thanks for your reply auxclass… we really appreciate your help. It is great that Yarpnews is found under google search, but what we were wondering is why, if we try to search for blogs on wordpress (using the wordpress search option) we cannot find them. Several times we have said to people “We are on WordPress, check us out” for them to say, “We did a search in wordpress and we cannot find your blog”. Are we missing something? Whenever we can we would like to market wordpress along with our blog, but if there is no way to search for our blog then I guess we will just have to say ‘Google us” instead.

Send the link to your friends or say “yarpnews.wordpress.com” yes does not roll off the tong quite so well – that is part of the reason I have my own domain name –

Have you thought about registering a domain name and then Domain Mapping? – all of I think $ 17.00 U.S. per year.

If your reders use this format below in Google search they will find your indexed posts quickly. (Note there is no space following the colon after “site”.)

    yarpnews site:wordpress.com
