WordPress Site Address Change

If I want to change my site address but remain on WordPress (aka keep .wordpress.com), will I lose the content I have posted when I do so? I understand the link to my old site will be broken, but will I have to transfer everything onto said new site? I have seen cases where people changed their site address and lost everything, and don’t want that to happen. Thank you!

What’s the address you would like to use with your site?
Just so that you know, a change in domain doesn’t cause the loss in content.
Also, to help maintain traffic levels on a site with a domain change, all domains active on the site will redirect to the set primary domain.
This means that, so long as your old domain is active, you shouldn’t see a loss in traffic, thanks to that redirect.

That is great to know. To be honest, I am less concerned about traffic levels – this site is more of a record of past work that I would like to continually add to over time.
I’d just like to know how to change ‘marchmadmen’ to something else, and ensure that all my work will remain on the new site.

You can find instructions for changing your free WordPress.com address here:
Note that this process will delete the current address, meaning all links to it will be broken. But if you wanted to, we could then undelete that address for you, and then you can add the Site Redirect upgrade to it – that will ensure that anyone clicking on an existing link for the current address will get taken to the new address instead.
Let us know if you’d like to do that, once you’ve completed the address change.
Existing followers of your site won’t be affected – they’ll still see your posts in the Reader or in their email notifications after the address change, as before.

To confirm — any existing links to my posts (such as on Twitter) will break, but my content will remain online, just under the new name?
For example, will the new site address automatically assign a new link to existing articles posted, such as the one below?

Exactly. Unless you get the Site Redirect upgrade.
