WordPress Site down/disabled. Dashboard access only.
-
Our wordpress site has gone down without explanation. Attempting to access the site yields a ‘Site Offline – disabled for technical reasons’ error, and attempting to access the administrator version yields an 404 error’
I am able to sign in to my dashboard, but the site link there has the same issue as above. Our Jetpack log shows a number of site url and home url changes that we didn’t submit, but they’re all still the same url for our site.
My dashboard shows 12 updates available: a core 6.4.2 update, and a bunch of theme update for Twenty Twelve through Twenty Twenty-Three. Trying to do any of these updates, individually or altogether, yields a ‘an error occurred while updating’ message.
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I’ve taken the time to look into your website and noticed that it’s actually using the WordPress.org software and is hosted by a different provider.
WordPress.org is the same foundational software we use here at WordPress.com, but it’s set up a little differently. Because of this, the specific help you may need can be different. To get the most appropriate help for your issue, I’d recommend posting your question in the official WordPress.org support forums, which you can find here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.
That said, I would also like to mention an alternative for you. You can migrate your website to WordPress.com. We are a managed-hosting platform, which means we take care of all the maintenance and security tasks so that you can focus on creating content for your website. We also offer dedicated WordPress support through both email and live chat to ensure your questions or issues are handled promptly and efficiently.
If this sounds like something that could interest you, we’ve built an easy-to-use tool specifically for migrating WordPress sites from other platforms to WordPress.com. You can learn more about how to use this tool here: https://wordpress.com/support/import-using-move-to-wordpress-com/
You can also take a look at our various plans and what they offer on this page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
If you have any other questions or if there’s anything else you’d like to discuss, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Hi!
Thanks for replying, and helping us differentiate. Can I ask how you were able to tell that we’re on the wordpress.org software & different provider? Right now, all I can access is my own profile here on wordpress.com, where our witandtravesty.com site is listed under “My Blogs”.
I would imagine that to even consider migrating to wordpress.com, we’ll need to gain proper access to the .org software site first, so I’ll raise our issue on that forum as you recommended. Thanks again for the guidance.

Your WordPress site is visible on your WordPress.com dashboard because you linked it to your WordPress.com account through the Jetpack plugin. However, this connection only enables you to manage specific aspects of your site from that dashboard and doesn’t function as a backup.
By examining your domain’s nameserver information, we confirmed that your site is not hosted with us; it’s currently hosted on Bluehost. To address the issue you’re experiencing, I recommend reaching out to Bluehost’s support team. They can analyze their server error logs to identify and resolve the problem.
Once you regain access to your site, we can assist you in migrating to WordPress.com. Since you’re already using Jetpack, you can utilize the Move to WordPress.com plugin to transfer all your content seamlessly.
I hope this provides clarity! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or require assistance with anything else.
