WordPress site help please
-
This may sound confusing but I’m stuck. I’m still sort of trying to get the hang of the whole local and live stuff when it comes to WordPress, so please bear with me.
I already had a wordpress site up before, it was originally a wordpress.com account, but I just bought a domain and so it’s well…a .com site. That I can understand. Maybe I got ahead of myself, but I decided I wanted to jazz up my blog (it’s for books, and I wanted to add more stuff to it. Y’know, to make it a bit more ‘sparkly’ :P) so I downloaded wordpress.org and created a localhost version.
I have a host, and have apparently got all the right digits in and the like. I’ve been adding pages, and I’ve imported all the posts and bits and pieces from my currently live site…Now here’s where my question comes in: How do I replace the current LIVE version with the new self-hosted one? Is there a way? I’m a newbie, and am starting to question the challenge I set myself. Please, if anyone understood my question, can you help? Would be great if you could.

Hi there,
You explained yourself perfectly. All you need to do is map your existing domain (theperksofbeingabooknerd.com) to point to the new .org site instead of your existing .com site. Both sites will continue to exist, the url will simply start taking people to the new site.
I can’t tell you exactly how you need to go about mapping the domain to the new site, as the process is different for different hosts, and we really only provide support for .com hosted sites here, but if you ask your host what you need to do to “map and existing domain” to the new site, you should be able to get the help you need.

Right. Well…I sort of understood that. haha. I host with terra prime and their customer service…well…. *eye roll* But thank you very much for responding. My brain can’t handle all this techno business. *pulls hair* :)

For help with the WordPress.org side of things you can post directly into the WP.org support forum here: http://wordpress.org/support/ You might have to register a username there if you haven’t already. They’d be better able to advise you than we as the two systems work completely differently.
