I’m part of the WP snow lovers community, but turned the snow off my blog earlier today. There’s an incompatibility between the snow and some versions of Firefox that causes those browsers to crash, so the choice between readers and snow was, unfortunately, a no-brainer.

I turned it off so now I don’t see snow on anyone’s blog even though they have it turned on. It was distracting when I would read people’s blogs who had snow plus it made my system slow down. If I walked way for a while and did not shut the site, I would return to a frozen browser.
I guess some people really like it and some don’t. I’m glad there’s an option to turn it off for those of us like me. Until I found out there was a way to shut it off, I quit visiting my favorite blogs and was going to resume reading their blogs after the holidays and the end of snow season here on WP.

I’m happy we have the option to turn it off. I’m also happy that the system recognized I have kept it turned it off 3 years in a row. I’m a minimalist who prefers to create no distractions that lead my readers away from reading my blog content. . I take page loading time very seriously and choose to eliminate all necessary scripts etc. that slow page loading time for my readers.

I still have snow on my blog. I put a text widget on the top of my page with a greeting and a link to the page where the viewer may turn off the snow. It says:
FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON!

@electricia — I went to your blog but missed the widget to turn off snow. But then I ended up exploring your blog — you have a cool blog!

thank you, tishrei. I’m happy to have found a home for my newbie blog here at WordPress. Everything about it has been positive. Thank you, WordPress
The text widget is at the very top, right corner. I linked to the WP “Let it Snow Page” which has instructions for turning off snow.
btw I haven’t experienced any problems with Firefox and snow, though I typically have many windows open at once. I wonder if it is because I have tons of memory? I recently bought more memory for my laptop after getting a warning that virtual memory was low. it was then that I discovered how big the Mozilla files actually are
