WordPress software —other hosts?

  I haven’t started using WordPress and I’m a bit confused about what I can do with it. I’m planning to start a web site on a hosting service in my city. I thought I might use WordPress, but from what I read, it seems to be restricted to the WordPress.com domain. In other words, I can’t just have my hosting service download and install it. Is that correct?

  This should help:

  WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  WordPress.com and the WordPress software are separate things. You can use WordPress software from WordPress.org on your hosting service – in which case WordPress.com is not involved.
