wordpress ‘splash’ page

  I have a wordpress site where I want to have a static front page but then display the regular index.php file.

  In applying a static page you loose access to the index.php file. In essence I want a kind of ‘splash page’ that will then lead users onto the latest posts page.

  Kinda at abit of a loose end of how to acheive this. Thanks for your help.
