WordPress Startup

I have a website with Squarespace and a domain through squarespace as well. Can I start wordpress and work in its environment before switching the website over to WordPress from Squarespace?

Hi there,
That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not you want to migrate your site and domain from Squarespace. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:

map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:

We also have the instructions you need to migrate your site content from Squarespace:
Hope this helps,
