WordPress still recognizes old e-mail address which is completely deleted from my profile
-
I changed my WordPress profile to a different e-mail address months ago. However, whenever I try to comment on a WordPress site using my old e-mail address, WordPress says I have to log in since I have a WordPress account.
But when I try to log in, it says there is no account linked to the (old) address. No kidding — I changed it!
How do I get WordPress to truly forget the old address? It shows up nowhere in my profile.
For the record:
Current profile e-mail: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Old profile e-mail: (email visible only to moderators and staff)Both e-mails are active and receive mail successfully.
This is all the more frustrating because I only signed up for WordPress to check out its blog features, then decided against it. I was an ‘active’ WordPress user for all of 15 minutes, years ago, and ever since it’s had its claws in my e-mail. Usually I can’t comment on WordPress sites at all.
I really resent having to ‘log in’ all the time to a service I don’t even use and never have!

Hi there,
It looks like your old email address is still listed as a secondary address in your Gravatar profile.
Please go to Gravatar.com, log in and click on the My Gravatars tab:
https://en.gravatar.com/emails/Click on the old email and delete it there. Then you should be able to use that email address for a new account.

Okay, done. Thank you for the link. I just tried leaving a comment on the WordPress blog of someone I know, and didn’t run into any roadblocks.
And normally I would express gratitude and leave it at that, but I have to ask: why on earth would the error message I was originally receiving say I have to log in to WordPress, but the solution be in a separate Gravatar profile I never knew existed? Remember, all of this is happening because of 15 minutes of research I did in 2008 — I have never been an active WordPress user for longer than that, and don’t know (and don’t want to know) the ins and outs of how things are set up.
It really seems to me that you’re missing some use cases here.
