WordPress structure vs Joomla in page creation
-
Don’t know if this is the right place to ask this question. If not I apologise.
I’ve been a Joomla user for years and am now trying out wordpress. One thing I can’t get my head around, is the way pages/posts are used to create pages in WordPress. In Joomla you simply create articles, categories and sections, then have the option to create pages just using these sub elements. Pages that are properly formatted in terms of content flowing L-R, and stacking itself in rows and columns, in a nice format. Its modular so anything updated in the articles progagates onto the page.
I can’t see that with wordpress. Yes you can use posts in a category to create a page.. But its just a simple blog layout..
Am I missing something or is it a different paradigm in terms of page creation.. Based on posts etc..
Any help/ advice would be most welcome.
Thanks

I’m not familiar with Joomla so I’m having a hard time picturing what it is you’re asking about. Can you provide a screenshot?

I’m also not familiar with Joomla, but assuming that you are referring to a site hosted on WordPress.com, does this support doc help? https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
The “posts on pages” you refer to is actually a database query. When someone clicks on a link to a category or tag, like “thoughts” or “facebook”, the dynamic page containing all posts in that category or tag will be displayed. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/
You can use those categories/tags to create a Custom Menu for your site navigation: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#creating-a-custom-menu
More info:
While on WPcom, we do not have direct access to our site database, there are several other ways we can display queries in any widget area. These areas change depending on theme, but are mostly sidebar and footer areas.
Category widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/
Tag widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/tag-cloud-widget/
Custom Menu widget

Archives widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/
On multi-author sites: Author widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/authors-widget/There are also a few shortcodes that allow you to display queries directly in pages or posts (or in a text widget). See here:
Archives https://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/
Display Posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/
List Pages https://en.support.wordpress.com/list-pages-shortcode/
Site Map https://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/shortcode/Hope that helps a bit and let us know if you need more help with any of that.
