WordPress Subdomain Retention

Hi, I’m the new webmaster of the uncgclassicalsociety wordpress and my organization is currently considering moving over to a dedicated hosting site and the wordpress.org software in order to increase the flexibility we have with our site. However, I was wondering if there would be anyway to retain the “uncgclassicalsociety.wordpress.com” domain name while using the .org software, since various social media, news media articles, and pages on our university’s website already point to the .wordpress.com url and we would like to avoid potentially confusing people by either breaking those links or being forced to put up a tacky “We’ve moved!” page.

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

use domain forwarding and make sure the Permalinks on your .ORG site match the ones here – then all traffic will go to your new site – search engines will be told the move is permanent so they will learn after a while that you have moved and change their links – your best option and $13.-/yr

You can’t take the uncgclassicalsociety.wordpress.com. with you and use it on your new host –

DON’T DELETE uncgclassicalsociety.wordpress.com. or everything get way messed up
