WordPress suddenly has changed each of my category name

  Hi, I would like to ask why each of my wordpress category name automatically add a hashtag # in front of each of my category name.

  For example, before a category name was Επικαιρότητα, now is #επικαιρότητα

  Also the url before was: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/category/επικαιρότητα/

  and now is: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/category/επικαιρότητα-2/

  The same has happened within all of my categories except my default category for all my wordpress posts at: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/category/τελευταίες-ειδήσεις/
  and my contact us page at: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/επικοινωνία/

  Please advise!

  Hi,

  For example, before a category name was Επικαιρότητα, now is #επικαιρότητα

  You have both a #Επικαιρότητα category and a #Επικαιρότητα tag. See the following:

  • #Επικαιρότητα category page
  • #Επικαιρότητα tag page

  Also the url before was: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/category/επικαιρότητα/

  and now is: https://taneaonline.wordpress.com/category/επικαιρότητα-2/

  Both the επικαιρότητα and επικαιρότητα-2 categories have been assigned to posts. Therefore, you have two separate category pages for them. My guess is that the “-2” extension was most likely added automatically when instead of assigning the previously used category to a post, you inadvertently assigned a new category, using a word for which a category already existed.

  If that’s not what happened, then I’d suggest you add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

  That is the only conclusion that makes sense to me as well.

  How are you creating your posts? In the past hour you have published over 200 posts, which means you are using some kind of bot or script to post them. If that script is trying to create a new category each time, that would explain why this is happening. WordPress.com is not designed to be used for this type of scraping and auto-posting of content.
