WordPress suitability for sports club website

  We are evaluating WordPress for a rugby club website. The purpose is to convey current information to the members and to publish upcoming events, game reports etc. Because we have several player categories (Senior, Junior & Mini) we want to have several discrete divisions under the club ‘umbrella’. For example the Mini division should be able to have static info (practice times etc) and ‘blog’ type reports on events, games, etc. We want to maintain the same ‘look & feel’ but at the same time designate editor/authors/contributors who are specific to their respective age group. Is this possible? What is the best approach?

  My answer is hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install.

  Thanks for the quick reply!
  The issue is not .org vs .com but rather whether it is possible.
  We pay for hosting now and are willing to pay for site development / customization. The problem in the past has been that when the season begins there is a ‘flood’ of input which is more than one (volunteer) person can deal with. The solution appears to be to distribute the workload to the various divisions and make them accountable for their content.
  I saw a graphic showing multisites linked to a ‘hub’ site and this seems to be the way to go. WordPress appears to to have everything we need as a ‘single’ site, and we could live with that, however partitioning into sub-site seems a better solution.

  Indeed what you saw was WordPress.org software running multisites network as described here > http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

  You will need to be asking for help at WordPress.org, as that is the support area for the version of the software you have chosen.
