WordPress Support Needed

    Hello! I’m trying to transfer my WordPress.com purchased domain to Bluehost. Bluehost told me to contact Wild West Domains, but Wild West Domains told me to contact WordPress.com. Now I don’t know how to get ahold of WordPress. I don’t have the option to chat like I have in the past from the question mark on the dashboard after login. Please help!

  • It sounds like you cancelled a plan here, and so the option for live chat won’t be in your account. We can help in the forums though! You can follow the guide here to transfer the domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

    If the domain was transferred in the last 60 days, the option to transfer won’t be possible. This is a lock from ICANN, and WordPress.com can’t go around it.

    Since I stopped payment with my bank on the WordPress charge that I didn’t authorize, im not sure if they will keep the renewal that’s currently showing. It was supposed to expire 3/7, but because of the unauthorized renewal now it’s showing 2020 expiration – meaning it’s locked. I wanted it transferred, not renewed.

    Now I’m worried that WordPress will revoke the renewal without me noticing since I stopped payment on the unauthorized charge. I’m not able to unlock the account for 60 days because of the error as of right now.

    Will WordPress notify me if they revoke the renewal so I can do the transfer before it lapses?

  • Ah, got it. Renewals are automatic and approved unless you specifically disable that before it happens. Stopping at your bank instead of the account here locked your purchases. There would have been an option to manage this without disputing the renewal.

    Thank you. The charge showed up right after I renewed my hosting with Bluehost, so I thought it was an error on their part. I specifically asked them not to renew the domain, so it seemed suspicious.

    I thought I’d bought to domain through Bluehost years ago, but it was showing Wild West Domains. I had no clue to check with WordPress. What a mess I’ve made! I just want to make sure it gets doesn’t lapse.

    Hi glamtrekker,

    The account you are contacting us from hasn’t purchased any upgrades or custom domains on WordPress.com — which suggests you have another account. Which domain are you trying to transfer from WordPress.com to Bluehost? Please don’t post any transaction IDs or card details here, a domain is the only information I need for the moment.

    You could also try logging in to WordPress.com using the email address your purchase receipt was sent to. That will ensure you are logged into the account that owns the domain. If you reply here afterwards, I can check what is happening with the transfer and renewal.
