WordPress support success story! Thanks, Gerard!
-
On Tuesday, Oct, 20, I contacted WordPress support through chat with a pretty complex issue. I have two WordPress sites that I wanted to essentially “trade” with each other and on top of that, one of the sites had a “blog” that I really needed to change to a “page” BEFORE the “trade” of the two sites.
The two sites involve a film festival I run ( http://www.avaloniafestival.com ) and my own creative project (www.distancefromavalon.com) . The two sites are “related” but not the same. After a few years, the film fest “outgrew” my own creative project and needed its own separate website. Last year, (late 2019) I got the 2nd site for the festival but I was rushed and mistakenly wrote the aforementioned “blog” instead of a “page” which through the whole thing off. I also used a theme that wasn’t the best for what I’m doing.
For me, I had a vision in my mind of what the results of all of this would be but really no idea how to accomplish the tasks. Usually, I would contact “a friend of mine who knows web-sites” to see if what I had in mind could be done but as I am in currently on a film set out of my home state and time is of the essences, “waiting” was not an option.
I contacted WordPress chat and wrote a big long message. “Gerard” on the other end was able to walk me through the steps of the process in a speed that was good for me.
Copying and pasting code as a “back up” into an email to myself was the way we were able to “save” the blog that became a page (eventually) from one of the sites.
The export/import process was actually easier than I thought it would be but I would have never figured this out on my own.
I still have some work to do to fine tune and tweak my website (www.avaloniafestival.com) for it to look 100 % but the work we got accomplished two days ago really is a HUGE start for me to have what I want.
Now I can concentrate on http://www.avaloniafestival.com and later on I can go back to http://www.distancefromavalon.com
So, kudos to Gerard and the WordPress Support Chat . I usually am the type that likes a “call center” but this Support Chat worked out great in this circumstance and Gerard was able to “copy and paste” URLS and screenshots to me to help me get to where I wanted to be.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised that this “major surgery” could be so relatively easily accomplished. It just took some time and patience.
Thanks Gerard and WordPress!
