WordPress tags don't load on the search page
-
I occasionally search WordPress for topics of interest to me. I’ll enter a mundane word or phrase into the search box and get the “whoa your search did not have any matches” message, which is surprising given that I will enter something like “Pacific Coast Highway” – not exactly esoteria.
It wouldn’t be a big deal except that the area to the right of the page where tags are supposed to load never seems to complete loading. The little wheel goes around and around and around without loading tags. I’ve tried this on a desktop pc, a Mac laptop and an iPad and the tags do not load on any of the three.
This makes it hard to search WordPress for topics. Is there another way to do it?

Don’t use the search: it only scans content, not tags or categories.
I go to Google and put the following in the search box, assuming I’m looking for, say, mummified fairies:
mummified fairy site:wordpress.com
and to search this forum most effectively, I go to Google and search for, say, Facebook Like and Share on the same page and put in:
Facebook Like and Share on the same page site:en.forums.wordpress.com

See here for global tag page searches > http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/
See here for WordPress.com searches > http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/ And keep in mind that the search engine only indexes the body text of blog posts, pages, and comments. The blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. This is the format for a Google search (note there is no space following the colon)
Pacific Coast Highway site:WordPress.com

Oh, but one remaining question: why does the little trackwheel churn endlessly like that?

It could be a browser issue. Which browser and version of it are you using?
- You could try troubleshooting changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies – instructions for specific browsers.
- Note that when you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.
- You could try upgrading your browser. http://browsehappy.com
- You could try using another browser.

Interesting, timethief – I usually use IE, whatever the latest version is, but I just tried it with Google Chrome and it loaded up immediately, so maybe the problem is with IE.
For which I’m grateful. Because when I look at the Global Tags, they are somewhat limited, it seems. Maybe there are categories within those tags that allow you to get more specific – when I looked at them, I didn’t see anything that would jump out at me for finding Pacific Coast Highway, or, mummified fairies, which is a phrase that will now stay with me forever… Raincoaster must be a very interesting person!

Thanks!
IE has a lot of issues right now, so avoid it if you can. Global Tags should theoretically be infinite.
