WordPress Theme
-
Hi all,
I’m doing a project which requires to develop a wordpress site. And I’m wondering if it’s possible to edit the template without purchasing an account?
Will I be able to edit the theme after downloading and uploading it through Filezilla? Can anyone guide me on the steps? Appreciate any help from you guys! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You would have to self-host a site in order to do that. At wordpress.com, we can only do custom CSS, we cannot edit themes since this is a multi-user platform (we all share the same underlying files).
Also know that wordpress themes are not HTML. They are PHP script with a bit of HTML here and there in them.

You could install wordpress on your own computer using MAMP or WAMP and develop the site there, but then it would not be accessible via the web by anyone. Only you would be able to see it on your computer.

I’m rather confused. My teacher did provide me with an account for me to self-host and a database. But I’m not sure of what I should do next. Can you advise me on that? Thanks so much!

You need to go to WordPress.ORG because that is where self-hosted WP is supported. Our version of the software works differently.

You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/
