  With free WordPress hosted -WordPress.com page that I have. Does this limit me to the 82 standard themes at find at my administrative dashboard? I use Opera as my web-browser, and everytime I try to download a different theme from WordPress.org (I understand that this is different than WordPress.com in that I do not host my own site) or any other location with free WordPress themes to download. I cannot seem to get things working correctly. Also, is there a better web-browser to use with WordPress? Thanks again for all of your alls help. My WP site is: http://erictyoung.com/

  Yes, the themes you see at the admin dashboard are the themes available at WordPress.com. You can download all the themes you want from WordPress.org or elsewhere, but you can’t upload them to WordPress.com.
  This is not a browser issue. It’s true whether you’re using Opera, Chrome, whatever.

  I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU blogging platform. The themes here were all originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were eliminated as this is a WP_MU blogging platform we cannot access and edit the underlying php and html in the templates. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates.

  If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

  If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

  I am considering switching to WordPress.org, and doing the whole self-hosted stuff, etc…Can I transfer my domain name to the “.org” location?

  Yep, you can switch to another web hosting provider at any time. To do that, you need to update the name servers for your domain. If you purchased your domain here at WordPress.com, you can use these instructions:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-name-servers

  If you want to transfer your domain that you purchased through WordPress.com, you can do that as long as it has been over 60 days since you bought the domain or updated the contact information. That’s a restriction put in place by ICANN.
