wordpress themes in general, upgrading CSS in particular

    Howdi,
I love wordpress, period. It has helped me in many ways, particularly in developing as an online journalist. In early 2008 I began toying with the idea of creating a news-blog on a newsworthy item of national (irish) importance, check it out if you like,
    https://citizenjon2008dublincastle.wordpress.com

In my previous blog, I attempted to utilise as much functionality as I could get my mits on, using widgets galore, trying to integrate visual media as well as textual. For my new blog I’d like to try and build something similar except with more everything.

Anyhoo, things have changed in wordpress lately, everything looks awesomely new and shiny, gizmos and nav buttons all over the place. When I created my new blog, vivapalestinia.wordpress.com, I wound up with a generic themed template, simple but not something I’d want to stick with. I figured one of the most important aspects of a blog is how it looks, so I set about changing the theme template to sommething a little more…me:) Unfortunately I was unable to change the theme (not a good start I thought to myself). Maybe I missed something glaringly obvious.

My first impression of the new wordpress dashboard is that it’s not very intuitive, something as central as choosing a template/theme for your blog should be available right there at the start.

can someone show me how to change the theme please?

I was also wondering if it is worth while purchasing the upgrade for editing CSS for wordpress. I’ve been practicing my CSS in dreamweaver and I feel I’m ready to try a little tinkering. Can anyone give me some advice on this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

scratch that ladies and gents, I found an activate button in the top right hand corner of each theme. Wooooot!

can anyone offer any advice on the second query?

On the left hand side of your dashboard you’ll see a section called ‘Appearance’. The first icon under this is ‘Themes’. Click on that and you’ll see all the available themes.

You can try out the CSS upgrade for free using the Preview feature to see if it’ll be worth spending the money on. If you’ve used CSS before you’ll probably be fine, but be aware that there isn’t any staff support and there aren’t many forum volunteers who know enough to help.
