WordPress to sponsor an event?

    I have an idea which might appeal to certain people, perhaps the owners of wordpress.

    What is planned is something unique (an expedition) and I intend on using WordPress.com to build the website to the best of my limited abilities.

    Before I go any further, I’d be interested to know if WordPress.com would be interested in coming onboard, thus giving them huge global coverage.

    Maybe it would be easier if I emailed someone connected with WordPress with all infos?

    Thanks. Before I do contact support, I’d like to wait a little while longer for any other suggestions with regards my idea of WordPress sponsorship.

    Have WordPress sponsored events before? Is it likely WordPress woul dbe interested etc..?

    WordPress have bought a round of beer for conferences based around WordPress. Other than that, I haven’t heard of them doing any sponsorship. WP.com is home to a LOT of websites for nonprofits like the New Zealand Giant Squid http://blog.tepapa.govt.nz/ that already gives them worldwide recognition, and they do provide those blogs for free which can itself be seen as a service.

    I would not hold my breath. Have you Googled to see whether the parent company does this kind of sponsorship?

    In actual fact, I’m not looking for financial assistance/input, but WordPress owners to sponsor (or even better) design a website similar to above – with the event which is planned.

    I know every blog says “Blog at WordPress”, but, for example, do WordPress have a flag (yes, a flag!) or any moveable related item which could be displayed during this planned event giving added PR to themselves?

    I’m limited in my knowledge of constructing a fantastic looking website using WordPress.com, but I’m certain the interest generated in this would be huge.

    It needs a professional touch, and all the more better if WordPress were keen to assist, not just provide the material to build a website/blog like we all use, but possibly create/build a site with WordPress.com dominant within said planned site.

    They do have t-shirts and hoodies, but good luck getting one.

    Why don’t you already have a blog? WordPress.com gives away blogs for free; just register one. That one I showed you is a standard theme, straight out of the box/Design Pages.
