WordPress tracking, plugin and moving to wordpress.org – some advice needed :)
-
Hi there
I’ve read through the forum and I think I understand this but I wanted to just get some feedback to make sure I’m right and ask for some advice too please :)
I want to be able to use a plugin on my blog which tracks users clicks (it’s not google analytics but it’s similar and embeds a javascript code on the site). I know that plugins are not available on wordpress.com (which is what I have my blog on). So the only way to do this would be to move over to a wordpress.org site? Is that correct?
If I understand correctly I would need to have this hosted somewhere else?
I guess my questions are:
1. Can anyone recommend places to host my blog2. Is the move over easy? I’ve read the links in the help section but I’d like to know from “real” people (if you see what I mean) if it’s actually straight forward.
3. I’m not, by any means, a web developer and am slightly worried that by moving away from wordpress.com I may not be able to update my site. Is the interface similar in wordpress.org or will I need to learn a whole new skill set and programming etc?
I’d just like a bit of advice before I take the plunge! I hope that’s ok
thanks
Nancy :)The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is the move over to wordpress easy? And is the interface the same or will I need to learn to programme etc to use it?
Also are there any recommendations for hosts?
Sorry – I’m a bit of dimwit when it comes to this stuff!

1. http://wordpress.org/hosting/
2. & 3.
If you are not adept at WordPress.com blogging then I don’t recommend setting up your own WordPress.org install. You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups and troubleshooting. If you install a theme or a plugin that negatively affects your blog, then you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it. No matter what goes wrong you are the one that has to fix it and there is no hand holding patient and long suffering support on the WordPress.org support forums like there is here at WordPress.com. If you haven’t read the freaking manual ie. the CODEX http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page then you will be twisting in the wind. -
