WordPress tutorial

Hello to all,I want to start creating a website, but I’m browsing from tutorial to tutorial, that in ways not very productive. I would like to find the right free tutorial (French or English) to help me knowing that :

    • My site will be a merchant site.
    • My site will have a set of resources that I would like to be able to arrange in a database and to be able to navigate in this database through the site (typically exercises or sessions that could be arranged according to certain criteria: difficulty, necessary material, type of exercise …)
    • Some of these resources would be free and others would have to be paid for.
    • I also want to sell services such as a sports course.

I come across a lot of tutorials that are very blog/article oriented (logically). I have the impression that my request is more complex. The tagging and category system does not seem to be able to fully meet my request. Could you please help me with my search for educational resources that would allow me to create such a website?

I would like my site to have a multi-criteria search with checkboxes and thresholds that would allow the user to find the resources he is looking for.

Thank you for the help you can provide.

  • Hello Loïc,

Happy to help you with this, so let’s dive right in!

My site will be a merchant site.

Ok so, are you looking for others to create stores on your site? If yes, you would need something like WooCommerce and WooCommerce vendors to get started: https://woocommerce.com/document/product-vendors/

My site will have a set of resources that I would like to be able to arrange in a database and to be able to navigate in this database through the site (typically exercises or sessions that could be arranged according to certain criteria: difficulty, necessary material, type of exercise …)

It sounds like you would need to make use of categories/tags at a basic level. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

Some of these resources would be free and others would have to be paid for.

Ok to check, are you selling courses to your audience? It’s possible to do this but if you’re able to provide some more context, we can look to provide the right guide on how to build that.

I would like my site to have a multi-criteria search with checkboxes and thresholds that would allow the user to find the resources he is looking for.

Interesting, so what flow is your site going to have exactly? Again, if you’re able to provide more information on that, we’d happily point you in the right direction.

With the functionality you’ve listed, you may wish to check out this service here: https://builtbywp.com/

I hope this is useful so far.

Thank you for your answer, so I will try to be more precise:

    • I would like to make available on my site some sports exercises.
    • I would like these exercises to be arranged / classified according to several points:
      • the category, as well as a sub-category (possibly multiple)
      • The level (unique)
      • The necessary equipment (possibly multiple)

    ….

I would like to have a search banner with the possibility for the user to make multi criteria searches.
To be even more precise, I imagined clickable icons to make the search (by clicking on the difficult icon, the search would take into account all the difficult exercises (without modifying the rest of the search))

I hope I was precise enough in my formulation.

Unfortunately, I have no budget to use an external service.
