WordPress 'unfollows' my favourite blogs / subscriptions lost

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I’ve got a problem that I’ve been noticing for months now.
When I login to reader, I keep noticing that fewer and fewer of my favourite blogs I subscribe to are appearing. If I search for these missing sites in my web browser , I can select the small ‘follow’ button in the top left – so it’s as though I’ve unsubscribed. Only, I haven’t.

This happens all the time and I’ve completely forgotten the names of many blogs I’ve ‘lost’ in this way. Anyone know the fix? Is it a common issue?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No this is not a known issue at all. What do you see here please? http://wordpress.com/following/edit/ Are the “missing” sites listed there?

P.S. Do you have more than one username account? if so please post the usernames you have registered.

Wow. I see all of my blogs back again clicking your link! But so many never appear in my reader.

I only have the account username limeandbarley but the site URLs are http://limeandbarley.com or http://limeandbarley.wordpress.com

    Hope that helps
Thanks for a quick reply too – hoping to get to the bottom of this!

Sorry I realise my message wasn’t very clear. When I click that link all the missing sites (many I haven’t seen new content from in months!) appear.

if there isn’t any content being published recently on those sites then nothing will appear here http://wordpress.com/

    Does that answer your question?

The thing is, when I visit some of the missing sites separately I see that they are posting content frequently!

Aha! Then what you need to do here is post the URLs of the sites. And, I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

So you mean post the names of all the sites that have seemingly dropped off despite posting frequent content? That will take quite some time but I’ll do it if that’s the way to fix it!

  • Hey there!

Yes, posting a few URL’s of blogs you’re following will help a lot. My first instinct would be that these blogs haven’t been posting as frequently as before, and that could be why your Reader isn’t refreshed with new content very often.

One alternate and convenient way of browsing the Reader is to go to the “Edit Blogs I Follow” page here:

    https://wordpress.com/following/edit/

Then click on the title of the blog you’d like to read. When clicked on, all posts coming from that blog should appear and at the bottom of each you’ll get a good idea when the post was published.

Going forward, please get back to me with the blog URL’s so I can look into this further. Thanks!

    Okay, sure!

    Well for example this blog
    https://wordpress.com/read/blog/id/31472934/
Is a blog I normally read all the time. A couple of days ago I noticed I hadn’t seen anything for ages from this blog and found it manually ie not through reader. I re-followed it and it’s now top of the list. The posts are recent, but I never saw them on my feed. I’ve been following this blog for around a year and notice that when I follow that link blogs seem to appear in a date followed order.
Another I follow is https://wordpress.com/read/blog/id/53090662/ and despite recent posts this hadn’t shown up on my feed for months. I had to again start re-following it.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers
    Becky

  • That is super strange. As a rough workaround, I would suggest re-following these blogs to get them to show up in your Reader. In the meantime, please keep a close eye on this and see if the issue happens again. Please let me know if it does!
