WordPress Upgrade versus another web hosting service

    I am a little confused. I want to use my own domain name for my wordpress blog and also want to be able to advertise on my blog. Do I need to do the WordPress Upgrade AND choose a web hosting service with the domain name I wish to use?

    If you wish to advertise on a worpress blog then that can only be done on a wordpress.ORG software install. It cannot be done on a wordpress.com blog whether or not you purchase a domain.

    Before Upgrading
    The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

    Sorry if I’m over-emphasizing something that was clear in tt’s response, but:
    – if you want to run your own ads, don’t waste your money on the WordPress.COM update. In fact, don’t even use WordPress.com for that blog.
