wordpress user comments banished to spam
-
Hi,
A friend of mine’s comments, also a WP user, keep going to spam. Akismet is *not* learning.
Any suggestions? -
Keep un-spamming them. And tell him not to post so many comments until this is fixed. It can take several days to teach Akismet.

No, she’s a normal WP user, little avatar, link to her site…like other WP users. I don’t know why it’s only marking her as spam. V. annoying :(
-
I used WP.com. I have this problem too, and it’s VERY frustrating. This only started happening about a week ago. My friends cannot comment on my blog and visa versa. My friends and I have to keep taking normal comments from the spam filter. And some of my friends don’t even check their spam filter, so I have to continuously email them asking them the check their spam filter and then viola, my comment is there. None of these comments are abuse, spamish, or ridden with links either.
The only thing one can do for now is to write Akismet and hope that this gets resolved soon.

I find that whenever a commenter leaves a link, even though they have previously posted, WP user or not, it goes straight to spam.
-
I never see half the spam that askimet says it has found. It just never appears in askimet’s spam area.
I wrote to askimet twice using their form, they never replied. -
This happened to me, and I was for a time, spam at all wordpress blogs. Another wordpress user friend, sent in a support mail with an example of a comment of mine that was in her spam bin and the WP guys un-spammed me. I’ve now done that for a couple of people when I notice that their comments are going into the bin. I didn’t find that askimet learned. For me, it went on for more than a week and no learning ever happened. The only thing that got me un-spammed was Jayleen sending in that support mail for me. I’ve gotten JD from Idothings un-spammed. I suggest sending in support mail for your friend.
@lettershometoyou – Have you checked that your settings haven’t somehow changed? That’s never happened to me. I used to have it set to two links mean the comment goes to spam and recently changed it to 3 because I was tired of pulling posts out of the bin. I hardly ever check my spam bin anymore now.
-
fracas – jeez, you can change that setting? I am truly not up to speed on much. Where do you do that?

Akismet does not reply. They are a horrible service. I’d rather get spam. The only blogs now that I can leave comments on are over at blogspot or any other place other than WP.
-
Ok, Fracas, I just left you a comment and it wound up in your spam bin. That post I commented on was very beautifully written by the way. Don’t want to tangent off here, but I just had to say that. :)

@virgomonkey- If your comment doesn’t appear right away, maybe the blog has comment moderation enabled. Just wanting to understand how we can tell if our comments end up in somone else’s spam folder.

@ virgomonkey
I’ve just read this now… sorry, I hadn’t come back here last night. I shall go and send in a support ticket for you. Honestly… sending a support ticket in works better than emailing askimet.
-
@virgomonkey – I’m just coming back to tell you I’ve just un-spammed you from my spam bin, screen-capped it and sent it in as a support ticket to ask them to un-spam you. Because of a few other things going on right now according to what’s on the board here, they may be a bit busy… but I have great faith that they will un-spam you like they did for me and a couple of my regular readers.
One other thing to note (though it doesn’t apply in your case, someone else might be reading and it may help them) is that if a blogger chose a user name that’s similar to what spammers use, like an initial and a number (R-16 for example and I did know someone who used a different initial then a dash and a number) askimet sees that as typical of spam and will identify that as spam. The user I knew changed her name to something longer and less spam-like, and her problem went away.
Come back to my blog after a bit and comment again to see if you’re un-spammed. I’ll make a point of checking my bin every day for a while until you are.

Hi Jennifer, no, if it’s comment moderation, then it tells me so. I don’t know if I mentioned this before but this has only been happening over the last 10 days out of the 6 weeks I’ve been on wordpress.
Also, the reason that I know it’s in other’s spam folders is because they tell me after I email them. I don’t feel comfortable emailing random strangers, though (and not everyone published their email addy on their page) – so this ordeal is keeping from talking to anybody I don’t know that has a WP blog.
One of my friends also wrote up a support ticket for my case and has yet to hear from Akismet. I’ve written a support ticket for myself. Akismet does not reply back.
But you really cannot comment a lot of other people’s blogs and expect every single person to take their time to write a support ticket for my case. It’s beyond ridiculous.
I mentioned this in another thread, but I rather pay a monthly fee for wordpress.com than to not be able to meet new people by commenting in their blogs. It defeats half the purpose of blogging for me. Very frustrating.
I wonder if I move to WP.org and get my own server if this would help?

Ok, Fracas, I just left a reply in your “about me” section, and my comment didn’t go through. Uggg!
