I am trying to figure out what version of WordPress I have. I have not downloaded anything, I simply use us the website but I can’t figure out what version that means I am using.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Version number is not relevant to WordPressdotcom sites, where the software is continuously updated by our devs on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis.

Is there a reason you need this information? What is it you are trying to do?

I have a squarespace website and I am attempting to upload my blog to the site but it keeps failing. Squarespace continues to ask me what version I am using…

To export your content from your WordPressdotcom site, follow these instructions to download an XML file: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ You’ll use that XML file to import to squarespace. Your WordPressdotcom site needs to be online and Public in order for the media files to transfer over, so don’t delete your WordPressdotcom site or make it Private until everything is set up on your new host.

If squarespace support asks, tell them your site is hosted on WordPressdotcom (not standalone WordPress) and you cannot disable any plugins (like their support doc says).

JustJennifer, I have tried doing it multiple times but it still fails on Squarespace. They are claiming that it is a WordPress issue…

    Any other suggestions?

My page is wordpress.com, it is public, and I have successfully exported in the past.

I have tagged this for Staff assistance. Perhaps they are aware of an issue with squarespace.

  • Hi there,

I have a squarespace website and I am attempting to upload my blog to the site

So you are trying to export your content FROM your WordPress.com site TO a site on Squarespace?

As Squarespace does not need to connect to us in order to import the content in the file I don’t see how this could be a WordPress issue. All the information needed to do an import is contained in the .xml file you get via the exporter, and we haven’t made any recent changes to the exporter that would cause the files to suddenly be incompatible with Squarespace’s importer.

One possibility: Are you trying to import the .zip file you get when exporting, or did you first unzip it and import the individual .xml files?

    Kokkieh – you are correct.

I am attempting to export FROM WordPress.com TO Squarespace.

I have downloaded the .xml file at least 10 times and in every way I possibly know how. I have even attempted to simply login with my credentials and that hasn’t worked either.

Squarespace believes that there is in issue with the .xml file but they cannot isolate the actual issue.

  • I downloaded an export file from your site. While I don’t have a Squarespace account, I did try importing it to another WordPress.com site, and it worked perfectly. So I cannot find any reason to believe there’s something wrong with the file.

Squarespace believes that there is in issue with the .xml file but they cannot isolate the actual issue.

Squarespace’s importer is in Squarespace’s control. If they don’t know what in the file is not working correctly with their importer, there is certainly no way for us to know. So without more information on exactly what the error is there’s really nothing we can do on this end.

That is what I was trying to tell Squarespace. I don’t think they have a clue about how to fix it and were hoping that it was a WordPress issue.

  • I really wish there was something I could do to help :)
