WordPress Version

Hey there!
Thanks for sharing your update screen — really helpful. I see you’re on WordPress 6.2 and the system says it’s up to date, even though newer versions are available. This is actually something we see on certain hosting providers like Ionos.
Here’s what’s likely happening — Ionos sometimes manages core updates on their own schedule, which means your WordPress dashboard may show it’s up to date even when it’s not.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Log into Your Ionos Hosting Dashboard:
Look for a “WordPress” section or “App Center.” Sometimes the host has a button to update WordPress manually or toggle auto-updates. If you see a delay option or scheduled update, you may be able to disable it.2. Click “Check Again” in Your WordPress Dashboard:
Go toDashboard > Updatesand click “Check Again”. Sometimes it just needs a nudge.3. Manually Update WordPress (If Hosting Allows):
If you’re comfortable with FTP or File Manager:- Backup your site first (very important).
- Download the latest version from wordpress.org/download.
- Replace everything except your
wp-contentfolder andwp-config.phpfile.
4. Check wp-config.php File:
Open yourwp-config.phpfile (via FTP or File Manager), and see if it contains this line:php
define(‘WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE’, false);
If it does, change it to:
php
define('WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true);Let me know how it goes or if you’d like help with the manual steps — I’m happy to walk through it together!

@shahbazkhan04455 Thank you so much for the detailed guide.
I tried options 1 and 2 with no luck, so in a moment of madness, I tried option 3, and I’ve completely killed the site! There are backups, but I have no way of accessing them without access to WordPress Admin, so not sure what to do now! Any ideas?

🚀 Let’s focus on recovery: 🛠 1. Restore from Hosting Backup (Recommended First Step)
Since you’re hosted with IONOS, they offer automatic backups through their panel. You can:
- Log into your IONOS dashboard
- Navigate to Hosting > Webspace Recovery (or sometimes under Backup options)
- Choose a restore point from before the issue and confirm the restore
This should bring your site and access back without needing to touch files or plugins manually.
If you don’t see the backup tools directly, their support team can assist in restoring a working version for you — just let them know your domain and ask for the most recent restore point.
🔧 2. No Admin Access? Use SFTP
If the backup route isn’t available, you can regain access by:
- Connecting via SFTP using credentials from IONOS
- Navigating to
/wp-content/plugins/and temporarily renaming any recently updated plugin folders - This disables the plugins and may restore admin access if a plugin caused the crash
(You can use FileZilla if you need an SFTP client.)
