WordPress video HELL……..

Help! I’ve recently discovered (to my great dismay…) that the aspect ratio on several of my posts has spontaneously changed from 16×9 to 4×3, producing a horizontally squished image!!! It’s awful….
Now, the strange thing is that the “thumbnail” frame is displaying at the right ratio, but the video plays at the wrong ratio!
These posts have a sordid history here on WP, due to the fact that when I first uploaded them (many moons ago) they were playing back in 4×3.
After some back and forth in this forum, one of the WP engineers suggested including the following phrase in the brackets that contain the video when inserting it in a post: w=500 h=281
I did so, and this solved the problem, stretching the video back out to its correct 16×9 ratio. Now that is no longer working apparently….. (FYI: When I removed the “w=500 h=281”, all that changed was that the thumbnail preview displayed in 4×3 too….
    Any ideas?? I’m completely stumped…..
BTW: If I upload these videos to Facebook, youtube, vimeo, et all, I have no problems… So what’s wrong with WP???

@joshuazepeda Looking into the video issues you’ve mentioned to see what I can find out.

@joshuazepeda I found two videos on your home page that show up with a strange aspect ratio. They are both rather large files. I’m looking into gathering the video details for them so I can see why the aspect ratio isn’t showing up as expected.

I uploaded a video last week from my Youtube account. It worked fine. I just tried to upload another video from the account and it shows up but won’t play. I checked the other one that I did last week and it shows up but doesn’t play now at all.

Thanks designsimply! I’m curious if you discover anything… I’m stumped!

The files are .mov files. I’ve found a temporary work around by uploading .m4v versions of the two files in question…
While this has not solved the real problem, it has achieved the desired result of playing the videos back in the correct aspect ratio of 16×9.
I suppose that I will have to avoid uploading .mov files until we discover the real solution…..
