WordPress Visitor counter is stuck !

I think the visitor counter has stuck. since morning I can see that views are updating but visitor have stuck to 51 only. Please respond

Hi there,
Our stats are page view stats and they are not real time stats. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update. Provided you are logged in when visiting, your own views are not recorded on any public blog you registered. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/Please do not assume that everyone who clicks a like button actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.
Also note that those who follow your blog in the Reader or by email don’t have to click into the blog unless they wish to.
And they can even comment without clicking into the blog either.
Likes and shares and comments and reblogs and follows are not page views. In fact, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat.

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

Sorry, but your answer is not helpful – because my blog is also stuck at 1 visitor and I can see that I am getting visitors from all over the world.

Hi timethief, I think the visitor counter really is stuck. It seems that today I have had one visitor yet 35 views from 11 different countries ?!?
of course there is always the possibility that the one visitor was using Dr Who’s TARDIS……………… -

The problem is with WordPress’s counter. My visitors stopped updating yesterday afternoon. I had well over 100 visitors per day for the week and as expected had around 50 by 4:00 yesterday afternoon. It stayed there the rest of the day and NEVER updated as we’re told will happen.
So far today, I have 27 views from 3 countries and only one visitor. That one visitor was there 5 hours ago. It seems like the visitor count should have updated sometime in the last 17 hours.

Thanks for your report and not to worry as Staff will respond.Note that once any thread is tagged for Staff it’s in one’s best interest to stop posting to it. Why? Because Staff deal with all threads in order of datestamp and timestamp and every time one posts again they move the timestamp further ahead so that means it takes longer to get help. Note also that posting into multiple threads becomes counter productive too for the same reason.

It looks like your stats for yesterday have updated now. I want to clarify that this updated happened with time. Across the stats tickets I’ve responded to this morning, it seems like there was a handful of users who’s stats for yesterday just updated within the last hour.
The amount of time it will take to update your stats will vary, generally they are updated by the next day. However, a longer delay is not unheard of and this is just the nature of stats reporting.
As far as I can tell from the various stats related tickets this morning, I don’t see anything that would suggest an issue with our stats tracking. And while the delay in reporting may be slightly longer than normal, this is still within the realm of expected behavior and also does not suggest an issue with our tracking.

I understand totally and do agree with the tracking precision of your system. Stats are usually updates as soon as there are changes, as far as I have noticed and many users do. And never in the past have i seen that much of awkwardness difference in the VISITOR stats and VIEWS stats. So, naturally I ended up googling this issue up, and found that this has happened recently with someone in Jan this year.
Off-course there may not be any issue with the system, but here only we can bring it to your notice that something might not be right and that, probably is not a wrong thing to do.

I have seen several times where the visitor count was way late (6 hours or more) – happened on my site in the last day or two

I just wanted to be clear in my explanation. The way stats are tracked can be extremely confusing especially when there are inconsistencies like the delay you saw today.
And I’ll be keeping my eye out to see if this type of delay becomes an ongoing issue. As it stands now, I’m pretty sure this was just a blip. But if the delay keeps happening, I’ll take it to our developers to have a look.
