WordPress vs. Bluehost
-
I have a free site with wordpress which I am looking to upgrade, but the plan here is more than 8$ per month, whereas if I just start brand new with bluehost it’s $2.95 per month. Bluehost is wordpress, so I am so flippin confused I want to eat my hair. Please help me to figure out what to do. Why should I stick with an upgrade of my current page if is 4x as expensive?????
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @jelbiry!
There are some substantial differences between WordPress.com and a self-hosted WordPress install (what you’d get on BlueHost). They aren’t exactly apples to apples.
For more info about the differences check out this Support doc: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
(Also, the lowest paid plan here on WordPress.com is $4/month, slightly less than that if you buy two years at a time instead of one. More here: WordPress.com Pricing)
If you still have questions, fire away! :)

Bluehost is wordpress
No, it’s not. There are two types of WordPress: WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
Bluehost gives you the .org version. Here, you’re using .com.
If you choose to go self-hosted, it will be cheaper, you will have more freedom and you’ll generally be able to dabble much deeper in your site’s backend. Where’s the catch? Well, WordPress.com is much easier to use and if you’re not fluent in technical stuff, you may frequently encounter obstacles that will be difficult to overcome. You’ll be responsible for keeping all installed plugins up to date, you’ll have to solve problems when two installed extensions collide and cause your site to crash etc.
