WordPress wants to use storage on my mac
-
I have macbook pro, mojave, and I use Safari 13.0.4. Sometimes I get a pop-up “wordpress wants to use storage on your computer.” The amount of space it requests varies. If I accept, it then happens again and requests more and more space. The message pops up today whenever I open the “My Sites” page where the stats are. A couple months ago when this happened, I then declined, and there was no more. Now it has started up again. Should I accept or decline? What is happening here, and what do you advise? Hi there,
Does this message appears within Safari or are you using the WordPress.com desktop app?
Can you also grab a screenshot of the message (whole screen if possible) and upload it to your Media Library so I can have a look?
Here’s how to take a screenshot:

Hello fstat, greetings and thanks for quick reply. You will find the screenshot message in my Media library.
It appears when I open the stats page in my WordPress site, but not when I am in Edit Post or visiting my site. Today I clicked again Decline. 1.5 GB is a lot of space, and if I “Accept”, it comes back and asks for more.
The message doesn’t appear on any other sites.
Safari is my default browser, perhaps I should empty the cookies?
Thank you for your attention.

Yes, definitely take care of the cookies and clear the cache in Safari:
Let me know if the behavior continues in a different browser as well. Were you able to get the requested screen shot?
-
Yes, as I told your colleague, the screenshot of it is in my Media Library. I will clear the cache a little later on and let you know if the pop-up recurs. Thanks

Hello, I cleared the cookie history in Safari, and that seems so far, to have taken care of the problem. The pop-up requesting 1.2 GB storage for wordpress on my Mac is no longer there. It appeared when I opened the stats page “Your Sites” each time. It didn’t appear on other WP pages.
Please keep this thread open for a week in case the issue comes back. Have you any idea what it is about?
Thank you – Jane

That is definitely odd, I have never seen that before.
If it ever happens again, try disabling any Safari extensions you may be using: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203051

Thanks. But please see this thread also started by another WP user, in November last year: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-does-wordpress-need-storage-on-my-computer/ – and the reply by your staff.
I am not sure what is meant by Safari extensions? What are they? Sorry for ignorance … always learning.
Thanks for your help.

You might have added an extension to Safari that could be causing this, see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203051 for details on how to see your current extensions and disable them (if any), of course though it would only be worth trying if this every happens again.
We do use some browser storage, but only a few MBs at most, so something very odd is interfering somehow.
-
No I never did anything like that – adding extensions. Have another look at what was said about the other thread, above.
Anyway, clearing the cookie history from the safari cache seems to have dealt with the problem for now.
