WordPress web hosting
-
I would like WordPress to host my website. I currently have a site created with iPage, which is a .biz I also have the site linked from a GoDaddy website, which is a .net.
I would prefer to have a single site on .net, and would like that to be on WordPress. Can this be done? -
Yes, but all depends on (1) what you want and need, and (2) what know and (3) what you may not know about the differences between wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpressORG software installs. The two are not the same at all.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/There is no FTccess towordpress.COM hosted blogs and there is no blogger installed plugin capability.
There is no uploading of either third party or custom themes. The only themes that can be used are these ones https://wordpress.com/themes/
No template editing is possible. There’s limited CSS editing available provided you purchase a premium upgrade bundle ($99 per year) or a business upgrade bundle ($299 per year). And, eCommerce is available only for sites with the business upgrade.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ and here for the Business bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/ that contain a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing: Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions

https://en.support.wordpress.com/ecommerce/There are code restrictions https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
There are advertising restrictions. No blogger initiated advertising is allowed on WordPress.com blogs. The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.

http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed.

Edit: There is no FTP access to wordpress.COM hosted blogs and there is no blogger installed plugin capability.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/re: mapping domains
WordPress.com provides free blogs and hosts them free of charge. There are no bandwidth charges. All WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. Free features are listed here https://en.wordpress.com/features/
In order to map to a domain URL one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the new domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the new domain URLs.
Please read Domains: Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
See here if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) see here http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/
Your payment methods are here https://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/
Your upgrade history will be here Dashboard > Store> My Upgrades
https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/Your billing history will be at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
