WordPress website address directing traffic to another with 301 redirects

  Can I direct traffic from a website domain I no longer have to a new website address I do have with 301 redirects?
  I need google to stop indexing the wordpress address.

  Bare in mind that if your websites uses the self-hosted version of WordPress rather than WordPress.com, you should post in the self-hosted forums or alternatively contact your hosting prover. Note the difference here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
