WordPress widget background GONE in ie9
-
We have a customer who has made a website in the free version of wordpress, and it shows up fine in alle the tested browsers (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE 7 and 8) bit NOT in internet explorer 9.
The issue is, that the background of the widgets are gone.
Is this a wordpress platform issue, a theme issue or a problem in IE9?

I’m actually not seeing a problem in IE 9.
Maybe it’s just the copy you’re testing with?
Have you tried clearing your cache?

Hello macmanx, and thanks for trying to help out.
The problem is in the costumers end, as I’m on Mac and can not reproduce the error on any browser that runs on either Mac or XP. He’s an engineer and _should_ be aware of such basic problems??? but he INSISTS on making this site site appear normally in IE9 and disregard everything else except IE9 if need be…???
Could you maybe send me a screendump of what YOU see? (email visible only to moderators and staff)
The costumer sent me a screendump in which he has tested http://www.maff.dk and http://www.alicekoreskole.dk and those can be found here: https://files.me.com/claus.frandsen/tevtdv
-
If need be, you can upload screendumps of what YOU see at https://public.me.com/claus.frandsen – then I can throw them at him, so he can see the problem must be in HIS end, and not a faulty wordpress-platform…
-
http://www.alicekoreskole.dk/ isn’t loading for me. If you meant http://alicekoreskole.wordpress.com/ I have uploaded a screenshot of that.
I do see the issue with http://www.maff.dk/
The issue there appears to be interference from the masked domain. http://maff2012.wordpress.com/ is working just fine by itself.
You can properly map your existing domain following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
-
-
The problem is, that none of the domains are actually mapped… they are both just redirects (URL-forwards) from the costumers’ old domains that pointed to other sites before… so, is the problem then at the provider of these forwards?
-
No, the problem is the forwarding in general. The browser is confused as to which domain to get the stylesheets from.
In order for this to work properly, then domains need to be mapped.

-
OK, if that’s the only solution, then we’ll just have to map them then.
Out of curiosity:
WHY is IE the only browser that gets confused? shouldn’t this be as obvious to IE as all the other browsers that has been tested with? -
-
You’re welcome!
As for IE, it has (and probably always will have) a very archaic way of handling relative links in HTML. You’ll run into similar issues on other sites where forwarded domains are used. I always recommend either Chrome or Firefox instead.
-
So do I, but this costumer is so think-headed :) he’s MS-ONLY.
I should be VERY nervous though, as he works on a plant that supplies the danish defense with radio-equipment for our troops, and the only thing they run there, are IE6 and 7, and there are NO plans of upgrading…
So I’m thankful that I’m not in Afghanistan anymore… Who’d rely on a contractor like that? ha ha ha
