WordPress: Will you please help with this comment issue?
-
I am wondering if this is a general issue. Why did someone who tried to comment on my blog get this message?
“You are being asked to login because (email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not logged into now.”
She was then asked for a WordPress password, which should not have happened.
She was not able to post her comment.
I’m wondering how many others this has happened to.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
It’s because if you have a WordPress account linked to an email it asks you to log in. Otherwsie someone could use your Username in comments, when it’s not you!!
-
Thanks for your response. This is the person’s entire message. It doesn’t sound as thought things are working as they should:
I tried to leave you a comment on your blog and this message popped up after I filled out my name, email and website…”You are being asked to login because (email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not logged into now.” It asked for a wordpress password even though I WAS logged in with my email address AND facebook???? I( finally gave up. Do you know why this is happening?
-
Now i’m confused, you say in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpress-comment-glitch?replies=1 that this person doesn’t have a password? If she/he has an account with that email on WordPress then she/he would most definitely have a password, unless of course she’s forgotten it. She can’t log into a WordPress account without a password.

-
So she was definitely logged into the WordPress account associated with that email before she commented? Someone else may be able to help with this as i’m clueless now, but i’ll tag this for staff anyway, just in case.
-
As an aside i would say that if she wasn’t logged in before trying to comment with that email, then she would obviously need to use her password to log in.
-
Thanks for tagging it for staff — I really want to resolve this because I don’t want there to be an issue with people commenting on my blog. I’m trying to build up readership and don’t want people to get frustrated and not come back.
-
OK. Just wait for staff to respond, or someone else may even have an answer for you in the meantime. Good luck.

This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments.

Other comment settings
_Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
_Users must be registered and logged in to commentNote that the prompt will still appear but providing an email address and logging in are not required. You can post instructions for your visitors in a text widget if you wish. That’s easy to do. You copy and paste this into a text widget:
Readers: Note that the email address and logging in prompts do appear for comments but providing an email address and logging in are not required.
See here and read about how to set up a text widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
P.S. if you set up the blog for anonymous commenting then do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. “An administrator must always approve the comment” because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.
