WordPress wont let me type and Post under "New Post"
-
Hi,
I opened my WordPress account only yesterday, basic membership, and layout “Quintus” (if that is of relevance for the problem). I wanted to post right away, so I went under “Dashboard” -> “New Post” as described in the turtorials. It lets me insert a Title for the blog, but once I move my mouse to the Body part of were I want to type my Post (I dont want to insert a file as I normally write my posts online rather than on my Mac) and click on the field and start typing the text typed does not appear in the body part. However if I go under “Dashboard” -> “Quick Press”, it lets me post. But obviously I dont like that function much, as the box is too small and it is harder to edit.
Could someone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?
Thank you so much in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What browser and version are you using? IE9 is giving people all kinds of problems. Some find that enabling compatibility mode helps; some find they have to disable it to be able to post. Try it.

I have a MacBook and am using Firefox version 14.0.1. Does a compatibility sub-menu exist in Firefox where I could check whether enabling or disabling might solve the problem?
-
Check your Firefox Add-ons. Here, 14.0.1 on a Mac, I needed to whitelist WordPress in AdBlock Plus and in DoNotTrackPlus. Others have had to do the same with Ghost.
-
I checked my Add-Ons a and AdBlock Plus but how do you whitelist WordPress? When I type in under Add-Ons “WordPress” I have a few Add-Ons that pop up which I can install…maybe one of them would enable my typing and posting in the actual “New Post” section in the dashboard.
-
The easiest way to whitelist in Adblock Plus is to right click the ABP icon when you are in WordPress, and click on “Disable on this page” or “Disable on wordpress.com” or whichever option you choose.
If Adblock Plus is causing the problem, adding additional add-ons won’t help.

I disabled both as you suggested and the problem remains. What it does in the “New Post” field (not in the “Quick Press” field though, cause there typing and posting is possible!), is that in the “Title” field the cursor blinks and lets me type, and the moment I move the cursor to the main Body of the text field to type the cursor becomes this static black arrow. I can click on the menu bar above the big box and tick several options, but when it comes to actual typing, and trying to get my cursor blinking in the Text Box…NADA!! I will try activating maybe the WordPress Toolbar Add-On (they had 3 or 4 different Add-Ons, so I wouldnt be too sure which one might do the trick) and see what happens.
-
Have you tried logging out, clearing cache and cookies, and logging back in? Have you disabled your other Add-ons, to see if it makes a difference?
I would be very careful with those WordPress Add-ons… from what I remember when I looked some time ago, most were wordpress.ORG add-ons, not wordpress.COM ones.
-
Cleared everything, logged out, whitelisted wordpress in AdBlock anew and for one moment I able to write into the Main Text blog. Then I logged out to re-try the typing process again to see if the system had everything saved…yeah well and then it didnt work anymore. *groan*

Does the same thing happen in other browsers, such as Safari, Chrome, etc?
I’m sorry, I don’t have any other suggestions to offer but to disable all add-ons, and see one by one which is the culprit.
Here, once I figured it was AdBlock Plus and DoNotTrack Plus, whitelisting solved the problem, and I hoped yours was the same. Sorry! :-(

So I seem to have firgured out the Problem when using firefox; its not the Add-Ons its by Browser history, i.e. cache and cookies. If I dont clear the hirstry before I enter WordPress.com it wont let me type in the “New Post” section. If I discard the Post entry and go to another sub-site ob WordPress.com, for example “Settings” or “Appearance” and then return to the “New Post” section it wont let me type anymore cause my browser history has started to fill. So I need to sign out of WordPress, clear my history and log back in…yeahhhh, way to complicated.
In Safari everything runs smoothly, so I guess I will be using that browser from now on for posting blog entries. Thanks for reminding me of Safari; perpetual Firefox user on Mac tend to forget from time to time that Safari exists ;)

This may help – I avoid the “new post” from the main WordPress page like the plague. I create all new posts from my dashboard/posts/add new. If I need to look at something else, or check something else, I right click to open it in a new tab, so I’m not going back and forth in history. Maybe this will help you? (I forget about Safari, too, since I’m such a Firefox user!)

Thats the thing you see, even in Dashboard I have the problem when I am using Firefox. But oh well, I have been using Safari the whole day and been posting so everything worked out fine! Thanks for all the help and support, much appreciated!! :)
