WordPress won’t let me update my own blog
-
I’m on the free version of WordPress and for some reason it suddenly keeps on giving me the following error message: Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post. Very frustrating. I then have to leave the site, go back and hope it works the next time.

Hi there,
This sounds like it may be a cache issue. Have you tried logging in using a different browser or clearing your browser’s cache?
-

No, still getting the same message….. So weird. Have been using WordPress for years and never had this before.
-
That can be pretty frustrating! I’d like to dive a bit more into the details. Could you help me with the following questions?
1. What computer are you using? PC, Mac, or perhaps a tablet or mobile device?
2. What browser are you using? Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox?
3. When exactly did this start? And which post or page are you working on specifically when you see this?
Thanks so much for letting us know, and for taking the time to help us with these questions! Hopefully we can help you get this sorted quickly so you can continue blogging in confidence. :)

Hi – I’m using my PC and Chrome. I’m not sure exactly when it started, probably in early January.
It has happened on each post I’ve prepared since then (three of them). It takes up to 17 revisions to get a post published because I have to keep on leaving the site, and then returning to make another change, before it refuses to let me update again.
I’ve just tried to finalise another post, and this is what happened:
I opened my site (Suidi.wordpress.com)
Clicked:
My Site
Write (4)
Clicked on draft I’m working on (number 4)
Made a pic bigger
Save draft
Preview
Close
Went to the Post tab (as my draft is now ready to schedule publishing)
Chose Category
Started adding tags
mid-way through adding the tags the error message popped up on a pink background across the top of my draft: Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post. Many thanks for trying to help. I’ve never had this issue before and nothing has changed my side, I don’t think.

Hello there,
Many thanks for getting back to us with the detailed steps on how you’re reproducing that error.
This is actually a known issue we’re working on fixing, however, this looks to be an intermittent fault, with no known common denominator.
What we do know thus far, is that this looks to be Chrome specific. Are you able to tell me if there are any browser extensions running on the browser, and can you tell me if there are any security programs running on your PC please?
Also, you mentioned this happened when entering tags – did this happen when any specific tags were being added?
As a temporary fix, we’re recommending clearing browser caches and cookies a number of times to clear that behaviour for the time being.
Many thanks in advance for any/all information provided.

Hi there
I seem to have the following extensions:
Adobe Acrobat
Cisco Webex Extension
FromDocToPDF
Google Docs Offline
McAfee® Secure Search
McAfee® WebAdvisorI only have Windows Defender (my McAfee expired a few months ago).
Just a note: It doesn’t only happen when entering tags. It often it happens when I am adding or changing the content of my blog post. The tags I had just entered when I got the error message were: leukemia; memoir.
I’m glad to hear it’s not only me! But the fact that it’s intermittent is bad news, as those are the bugs that are the hardest to solve. Thanks for helping.

Hi there,
Please let us know the version of Chrome you’re using so we can report it to our developers.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that additional information.
We’ve added this report to the list.
Thank you for your patience, whilst we work through this.
