WordPress.com account recovery without a wordpress.com blog!
-
I have a wordpress.com account that has disappeared all by itself, (a different account than this one!).
When I try the Account Recovery page, I have two of the necessary proof items, including a verification URL and a two factor code- HOWEVER, it also asks my for a blog name (on .com) but I don’t have one, because I use this .com login for a wordpress.org site (Akismet and site stats on Jetpack)… so it WON’T let me proceed, because it will only accept a wordpress.com blog name!!!
Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog above is also NOT part of this question! Again, they always ask for the name of a blog no matter what the question or issue!
-
If you have the email address of the WordPress.com account you’re trying to access, then you should be able to reset the password. See the top of the Account Recovery support page.
If you must use the Account Recovery Form, I don’t think you’re required to provide multiple proofs of ownership. One of them should suffice. Have you tried that?Again, they always ask for the name of a blog no matter what the question or issue!
So you don’t remember the URL of the elusive WordPress.com account? Can’t it be found in an email account?
-
Perhaps not. The account recovery form is to be resorted to in the following case:
If you’ve misplaced your log-in information, the email address or username you’ve entered isn’t recognized, and you haven’t enabled Two Step Authentication.
(quote from the Account Recovery support page)

Thanks, but none of the above applies. To build upon what I stated:
– I didn’t forget the password
– the account was deleted by WordPress. Don’t know why it disappeared… But that’s why the system directed me to the Account Recovery form.
– I don’t use it for a wordpress.com blog, thus I can’t enter a wordpress.com blog address as required (you need a wordpress.com login for akismet, and for Jetpack stats even though your blog is on wordpress.org)
– someone at wordpress.com has missed this catch-22 with the recovery page!
– NO WORDPRESS.COM BLOG, DESPITE A WORDPRESS.COM FUNCTIONING ACCOUNT- YET THEY ARE FORCING ME TO ENTER A WORDPRESS.COM BLOG TO PROCEED ON THE RECOVERY PAGE! (Hello, WordPress?)

Several hours ago I flagged this thread for staff attention. Every time someone posts to it, it goes to the back of the line waiting for their help. Please do not post to the thread, subscribe to the notifications, and just WAIT.

@richardvelez
can you send me the username and/or e-mail address associated with the missing account? If you post the email address here in the forum only you and WordPress.com staff will be able to see it. -
Hi Lizthefair!
The missing (deleted, but not by me) account is ethingrichard.
I have both the activation URL, and emergency authenticator codes… Got it all, still, so I can give you the required proof… You can reach me at the email associated with that account. Thanks!!! -
@Lizthefair Hi, not sure if I needed to @sign you in the reply I just left you on this thread! Thanks for your help!

Hi richardvelez
Could you try logging into your WordPress.com account using the email address connected to your missing account rather than the username?
I think that will solve the problem. If not, let me know and we can move this conversation to a private e-mail.

@Lizthefair
Hi,
Yes, I did definitely try that, and received the “Unable to reset password
I’m sorry, but we weren’t able to find a user with that login information.” message… that’s why I also tried login with the username as well.Yet I left this new account in good standing, having just established it a few weeks ago for wordpress.com & Jetpack stats, etc for a new wordpress.org site.
Thanks,
Richard -
