WordPress.com and Google Apps configured to go through an SMTP for bulk email?

Is there anyway wordpress.com with Google Apps could be configured to go through an SMTP server so I could send an email to a large group of contacts from my associated gmail account?

I have my site on wordpress.com and my domain is @kevkeith.com
I have configured email through Google Apps for Work, but I need to send emails with a large amount of recipients [press releases] instantaneously [not drip drip as gmail prescribes].

I am seeking to send outgoing email through SMTP server to allow this: is this the right course of action, and if so, how could I do it [if at all].

    Many thanks.

    Kevin

PS. I am a novice at this so please bear that in mind when you respond.

    Hi Kevin,

No changes would be required in your DNS settings on WordPress.com to change how outgoing mail operates. The MX records on your domain that facilitate Google Apps are there to direct incoming mail (to kevkeith.com) get directed into your Google Apps account.

There appear to be a number of guides online for setting up SMTP servers, but I’m afraid I’m not sure if this is the right course of action.

I know a lot of folks use services like MailChimp, Constant Contact, or Aweber for handling email blasts with lots of contacts, and that may be an easier way to go than setting up your own email server.
