wordpress.com and .org confusion
-
I have had my blog going for about 10 months now. I initially made basic updates to it and posted my photography work. Now that I’m starting to make a tiny mark on the internet, it has been suggested that I open a gallery to sell my work. So today I sat and made it a goal to create a more professional WordPress site…
I was going to make a complete overhaul on the site, creating a gallery along with a few other pages. Most of what I have come across suggests using plugins. I download said plugins only to get a folder I have no idea what to do with. After trying to find a plugin option on my WordPress to install the plugin, I found out that I can’t even use a plugin… I need a self hosted wordpress.org account…
I’m incredibly confused…
When I first started the blog, I followed a basic wordpress class on lynda.com. if that helps anyone determine what I’ve done…If anyone can help me or give me some helpful tools/suggestions I would really appreciate it.
My plan was to have the page look something like this
or
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have a good understanding as far as the basics go, but is there possibly some widget I have overlooked to sell work via paypal or create a more customizable slideshow? It seems like the only way to achieve what I’d like to do is to self host and use plugins.
If I did go the self hosting route, is it possible to move all my content over and keep the same address?
