    RE: Statistics, Insights page

I want the grid at the top of the Insights Page that shows graphically Posting Activity by month for the year.

    Thanks!

I love the app and especially the new editor [since its release].

  • Hi there,

Do you mean the same as the insights page in the web interface? The app should already include that.

I just took this screenshot in the Windows version of the app:

If you don’t see the same, the problem might be with your installation of the app. Considering the crashing problem you’ve also reported, have you tried uninstalling the app and downloading it again?

    Thanks! Indeed!

I do not see that grid. I wonder if the touch screen matters, I stated in the other thread you are responding to that was an issue with one of my browsers, I think Google Chrome with Windows 8.1. It is not with Windows 10 Edge Browser or Google Chrome.

I will uninstall, download again, and reinstall.

    I’ll let you know…

    This is what I see.

The forum did not accept my link.

This from my forum thread on the activity grid and Chrome on my HP touch-screen notebook.

    Hi James,

Yep, it’s because your notebook has a touchscreen — our team is investigating the options for making that posting activity available on notebooks like yours. I don’t know what kind of timeline we’re looking at for solving that for you, but I’ll let you know once I know more!

I uninstalled the app, downloaded again, and installed from the new download.

Still, no grid at the top of the Insights Page.

  • Thanks for the link to the other thread. The new stats page in the web interface and the desktop app use basically the same code, so I think it might be the same problem. I’m waiting for confirmation on that, then I’ll get back to you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sure, except the grid shows in my browsers under Windows 10. Thanks!

  • Right. You said that above. However, thus far the touch screen appears to be the only major difference between your computer and the various machines we’re testing this on, so it’s worth a shot :)

Change that. I am mistaken. Posting activity does not show in Google Chrome on my Windows 10 Desktop. Seems the issue that was discovered before persist for my HP Envy Touch-Screen Notebook. I use Edge 99% of the time and missed that. Sorry…

SOLUTION: Disable Touch-Screen Driver [work around anyway]

Result: Both Google Chrome & The WordPress.Com Windows App display the Posting Activity Grid.

Driver: 10.0.10586.0 dated 06/21/2006. A search for the latest driver finds the installed driver is the most current.

Sending me to find the latest driver caused me the disable and then confirm the switching the driver on & off is indeed the single function that allows the desired display to be seen.

Thank you for your assistance. You solved this Feature Request.

    Jim

  • Thanks for testing that.

The problem here is that if the stats page detects a touch screen device, it treats it like a mobile phone or tablet. Currently we hide the posting activity module on mobile devices as it’s not fully responsive, and touchscreen laptops are an unintended casualty of this.

We are working on a posting activity section that will work well on computer and mobile screens, which would resolve this, but we don’t have a fixed timeline on that yet.

    Thanks!

It is good to know why and to also know why I do not see Posting Activity on my iPhone. Anyway, for now, my work around confirms the issue and gives me a solution.

I have another feature request, if appropriate for this thread?

I have a question: With the feature turned off for the reason stated, why are Posting Activities visible is certain browsers?

    Jim

  • With the feature turned off for the reason stated, why are Posting Activities visible is certain browsers?

That is most likely due to how the different browsers interpret the CSS. The same code can have different results in different browsers, and both the specifications of the code and the programming of the browsers change constantly. Our developers try to stay on top of this, but it’s quite a job.

I have another feature request, if appropriate for this thread?

You are welcome to post it here, yes. We are keeping track of all requests, bugs and ideas regarding the new editor and the app, so if you feel it’s missing something important or just have an idea that might make it better, we want to know about it :)

    Feature Request #2

    Default Preview Mode

Currently, on my PC, preview opens in the tablet/iPad Mode versus PC or SmartPhone mode.

    Change:

Allow the user to set the default mode to the device they are using or desire to see how the preview will look for the device.

Better yet, have the app sense the device it is being used on and open the preview in that mode. For me, that would be PC or the left-most preview mode.

Benefit:Saves a step [selecting PC] each time a post/article is previewed.
