    Feature request #7

    Gallery Order

    Problem:No Reverse Sequence Button

After the gallery is loaded, one can only select Random Order using the Visual Editor. The change the gallery order, I have to use the HTML editor, e/g., orderby=”post_date”. This is different than the browser visual editor.

  • I’m not sure I understand what you’re talking about here. When you say “gallery” I think of image galleries used in a post, and “post_date” is not an argument for the orderby attribute in the gallery shortcode.

Can you please explain exactly what you’re talking about? It might also help if you can link to an example for me.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sure.

Yes, image galleries used in post. Oderby=”post_date” changes the sequencs of the images. To my knowledge, it is a gallery shortcode or so the Internet tells me.

The following basic options are supported:

    orderby
specify how to sort the display thumbnails. The default is “menu_order”. Options:
menu_order – you can reorder the images in the Gallery tab of the Add Media pop-up
title – order by the title of the image in the Media Library
    post_date – sort by date/time
    rand – order randomly
    ID

    This from: https://codex.wordpress.org/Gallery_Shortcode

    Did you try it?

Before, there was a button the change the sequence [order] of images. There is not in the new app. I am suggesting there should be one.

    I hope this clarifies…

You are correct that the shortcode is not inserted by using the orderby function; but, what is a writer to do what the sequence is not what they want, yet WordPress.org gives a solution that works?

If the button was present, I would not have looked for a solution.

    Again, I hope this helps…

I took this from an earlier post. I have 25 pages with orderby.

    [gallery ids="53548,53551,53547,53550,53549" type="rectangular" orderby="rand"]
    <p style=”text-align:center;”>Through the glass… [refresh your browser for a different arrangement]</p>

    [gallery size="medium" order="DESC" columns="2" orderby="title"]
<p align=”center”><span style=”font-size:small;”>The lady who makes [made] it happen ~ Alma Artis. Thanks Luv!</span></p>

I believe order=”DESC” & order=”ASC” were the switches used before. My effort was to solve a problem and found a solution that worked.

    Jim

  • Hmm. I did not know the arguments for the WordPress.org version of the shortcode worked here as well. I do think it’s probably not officially supported, so don’t rely on it to keep working indefinitely.

    Request noted.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay. Thanks!

My 25 pages of post containing orderby shortcode, most derived from the old editor, with buttons, date back to 2009/03/26.

I am only looking for the functionality to which I have grown accustomed.

    In general code is code.

The question is how will a browser respond. Most are okay with some form of HTML & CSS. I find answers to many questions at WordPress.Org. I search both and then I try and adjust for my theme.

I have one more Feature Request for the app. I’ll put it up soon.

    Feature Request #8

    A Sidebar Media Menu Option.

Problem: There is currently no direct way to get to the Media Library through the new app or the revised browser editor.

A way is to select the image icon on the upper left of the editor toolbar.

Another way is to go to Admin and then select media.

There are other convoluted ways not fitting of our new [and improved] Windows WordPress.Com App.

    Help–please…

    Jim Artis

  • Media library access from the new editor is on the list, but that’s one of the bigger stuff to program, which is why it’s not there yet. But we are working on this already. I’ll be very happy myself when that’s done :)

I have a bug for you, but later today…

  • Unknown's avatar

BUG:The mouse no longer inserts tags–requires pressing the <enter> key to insert a tag.

To my knowledge, this fellow came with version 1.2.1.

Before, clicking on a selected tag inserted it. Not now…

    Squash this fellow…

    Thanks!

Regarding features I asked for. I focused on things that are not being clamored for: e.g., HTML toolbar, spellcheck, etc. I want those as well, but know they are already on the list.

Thank you for you time and understanding in helping relay my thoughts to your developers. GOOD JOB and great second step in bringing this app about. I look forward to its full use–new features, without bugs…

    I appreciate your service!

  • The mouse no longer inserts tags–requires pressing the <enter> key to insert a tag.

Do you mean when selecting from existing tags? I just tried it on a Mac and was able to add tags as usual, so this might be specific to the Windows version. I’m not near my Windows machine at the moment, but I’ll test it as soon as I can and get back to you.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think it’s great that you’re so excited about the app and that you want to help make it better.

Do you code yourself? You might be interested to know that the desktop app is now open-source on GitHub, so you’re welcome to contribute to it there as well.

Thanks for the feedback and compliments.

Yes, I do mean using the mouse to select a tag from the existing list of tags. Before I could click on the tag and it was added to the post, Now, I move the cursor there with the mouse and then press return to add the tag to the post.

I do not code per se. I focused on coding during my Information Systems Masters Degree Program. I am much more of a user now.

  • Hi there,

I was just able to reproduce the tag issue on my Mac as well. It started the moment I upgraded to v1.2.1. I have filed a bug report and will let you know when I hear anything.

  • Unknown's avatar

EXCELLENT! That was my experience as well. The new release gave us a bug. I look forward to a squash. –jaa
