WordPress.com blog name still unavailable

Hi, a while back I made a wordpress.com blog. I later deleted the site as I was fiddling with trying out a self-hosted platform. That didn’t work out to my liking and now I’m back, looking to get hold of that same wordpress.com name again, only to find that it’s still not available.
When I enter the domain url, the website tells me that the site is no longer available because it’s been ‘deleted by the authors’. If I remember correctly, when I originally deleted the site there was a message saying that the url would be made available for other users after the deletion.
Why hasn’t this happened yet? If the url still refers to the site as ‘deleted by the authors’, surely nobody else has snapped it up yet?

Once a site is deleted it is gone forever, even from the original owner – blog names are not recycled at WordPress.COM
