WordPress.com blog used squeeze sales page

Is it within the rules and spirit of wordpress.com to use a blog as a pure squeeze sales page with email capture, sales pitch for a product or two plus links and images?

I have my own personal blog, ad free, and I want to keep it that way but, I also hear that 3rd party suppliers are producing templates for squeeze pages designed to be used on the wordpress platform.

    What is the situation?

You need to contact support directly on this, but we cannot upload themes found on the internet, nor can we install plugins and such.

I suspect you will find that wordpress.com will not work for this, and I further suspect it would violate the terms of service, but you need to verify that with staff.

My feeling is you will have to get your own domain name, hire a web host and use the software from wordpress.ORG.

  • WordPress.com is for blogs.

We don’t permit affiliate advertising sites, get-rich-quick schemes, or SEM networks:

I can’t think of a situation where we’d look kindly on squeeze pages. Maybe there is one, but I’d suggest downloading WordPress and installing it on a friendly hosting service – see http://wordpress.org/hosting/ if you need recommendations.

You can send details but I’m certain it’s a no.

    Thanks, folks
This is pretty much as I thought.

I am really confused about this situation. I am just getting started on creating my blog. It is intended to be a content rich site, but I would like for people to be able to opt-in to receive different things like a Free Mailed Hardcopy Report on a specific topic, e-books, e-courses, etc…

To be able to make this all happen, I would have to capture their pertinent info such as name, email, address, etc…

This is not any kind of get rich quick scheme, but I have quality information to offer to people and am also interested in building my list of people that I keep in contact with.

Can someone please tell me if I should not be using wordpress.com for this type of application?

You need to contact support and give them specifics on the nature of the information that you would be sending out to people and whether it would require payments from the people or not. Be detailed and specific, and if possible include links to samples they can look at. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

The contact form that wordpress provides could be used for this purpose. It would give you username and email address and a website if they filled one in.

I’m thinking though that a self-hosted blog might be a better solution for you as the only limits on them are the limits set in the TOS for the web host.

  • Nobody thinks their own get rich quick scheme is a get rich quick scheme. “It’s instant profits/wealth building/cash gifting/the xyz system, not get rich quick!”

In my opinion (and I’ve used the Contact form since it was introduced) WP.com is not the proper platform for data capture and opt-in services. It just does not work the way you would need it to.
