WordPress.com Blogroll Widget Problem

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog is mytechtalk.wordpress.com. It isn’t hosted elsewhere and I know that limits my functionality in certain situations. However, I cannot figure out why the “Widgets” on my chosen theme are either

    a) not showing up in the admin Design control panel for editing

(I have a widget on my site titled Blogroll. However, this widget is no longer visible in my admin area for editing widget design. I cannot remove it, edit it, etc because I cannot see it.)

    or

    b) showing up but not editable.

(In particular, there is a widget titled “Links” and the description indicates that this is for the Blogroll. When I add this widget to my blog page, it shows up with a title of “91” and I cannot edit the title at all or remove links added there)

    Does anyone have any ideas?

What browser and operating system are you using? Please make sure your version of Flash is up to date.

Your probably using IE. Change to firefox if you want to edit your text widgets and other things.

Thanks. I’ve got Windows XP SP 2 and I’ve used both IE and Firefox so far. I haven’t tried updating flash yet. Maybe that’ll do the trick.

When you go to Dashboard->Manage->Links, are the ones in “91” in a different category than the ones in “Blogroll”? You might be able to manage the contents of Blogroll here, if that is the case, just by changing the categories of entries.

    Hi Raincoaster,

The ones in “Blogroll” existed before the ones in “91”. I assume that they are different widget categories. However, on the manage Widgets page, I only see “91” (which I cannot edit, but only remove) and not “Blogroll”.

I’m having exactly the same problem. I created a blogroll widget called “OGBs” on my blog http:recruitmentology.com, but now when I add links they go to a different blogroll entitled “1356.” I’m working in Firefox 2.0.0.14, which is the most recent update for my Mac.

    Wussup?

Uh oh…its contagious. I updated my version of Flash, per an earlier suggestion. However, no luck.

evidently the BLOGROLL has been removed from WordPress … i.e. it’s no longer available. obviously we can still have a category called ‘blogroll’ but that’s it.

Nice of them to notify us, huh?!

Blogroll is now called links. There is a “links” widget, and you write your links under manage > links.

When you assign categories to your links, they will be listed in the “links” widget under that category. You can have multiple categories (links, blogroll, stuff, junk, etc.).

Blogroll has been called Links for as long as I’ve been at WordPress, over two years. It’s not like they pulled a switcheroo.

Actually in the dashboard it was called blogroll rather than links. The widget was called links though. That was always confusing. Now it’s called links everywhere.

Thanks for clarifying. But I still have two issues:

Issue #1 – the Links widget shows up on my blog as “91” and I cannot edit the title.

Issue #2 – the old “blogroll” widget still shows up on my page and I cannot edit it from the admin-design-widgets screen.

Is there any solution to this?

The links widget will automatically inherit the category you assign to your links as a title (or the first one alphabetically if you have more than one category). The 91 is showing up due to the fact that somehow it got assigned as a category for your links. Go into manage > links, click on the link names, and create and assign a category to them.

I have three categories for my links: blogroll, interweb, and wordpressing and the title appear alphabetically in the widget on my blog. http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/ . Look at the bottom of the left hand sidebar.

Following up with tsp just said, the Title “Blogroll” can also be completely suppressed by assigning your Links to other categories and never using the “Blogroll” category. That’s what I’ve done on my blog.

Thanks STP…..that’s exactly what happened. I somehow had a category called “91” but never created it myself. I appreciate your help with this issue.
