Hi, I recently signed up on wordpress.com. I wanted the name sifugeek but it said it was “in use” which is why i had to choose sifugeekuk. I have checked the url https://sifugeek.wordpress.com and that seems to be inactive or not in use as the last dated post is February 1, 2011. Is there anyway i can contact who registered this? or maybe find out if it will expire so I can register it for my own use. Thanks

The best way to lookup the owner of a domain is on the official ICANN site using their WHOIS search tool, you can find it here: https://whois.icann.org/en:)

@sifugeekuk – WordPressdotcom URLs, such as mysite.wordpress.com, do not expire regardless of when the last post was made on the site.
If there is an open comment form or contact page on that site, you can ask if the site owner will transfer site ownership to you. If there isn’t one or the site owner doesn’t answer you, there’s nothing further that can be done. WordPressdotcom will not share that site owner’s email address with anyone.

@gamedreamer WHOIS searches are relevant only when a site is using a custom domain name. If the domain owner has added Privacy to their domain registration, their contact information will not be available. Domain owners are choosing to add Privacy *exactly* because of the reason you mentioned. :)

@justjennifer I just left a message on a comment form since there is no contact details on the website. I will wait if i get a response, if not. Then its not the end of the world. Thanks for the help
