WordPress.com domain not redirecting to wordpress.org blog

I’ve searched the forums for this issue so I hope I’m not doubling up.
I moved from .com to .org hosting @hostgator.
While I was on .com I managed to get some pretty high google rankings for some of my posts which are still “active” (I don’t know if that the correct term).
I have purchased the redirect “app” from the store but when I google “dangerous recreational activity” and click on the link relating to my .com blog it redirects to a hostgator 404 page.
I assume that the individual posts are not redirected to the new blog’s homepage: robertsheldon.com.au
Is there a way to make all the hits redirect to the homepage or some other way of overcoming this issue – or have I misconfigured something somewhere?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Even though the seamless redirect from the root blog URLs to the domain URLs is seamless there is no transfer of page rank or authority. The original root blog URLs earned the page rank and authority and they are not transferable. The reason we purchase either domain mapping or a site redirect from WordPress.com is so the original root blog URLs redirect seamlessly to the domain URLs and no “404” pages are created.

Are you leaving WordPress.com? Would you like to redirect yourblogname.wordpress.com (as well as all of your permalinks) to your new domain name? Have you recently changed your blog address and need to redirect traffic to the new name? That’s what the Site Redirect upgrade does http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

You need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are now using. http://wordpress.org/support/

If you are talking about the site I end up at when I click on your name – it looks like you have your Perma-link structure messed up and you are using the WordPress default link structure – I think you need to change your Perma-link structure to match what you blog was using here.

However please get a second opinion but that looks like the issue to me.

TT – I am talking about the domains page in my .com site being completely different to the one you linked to.
Does this make any difference to the advice?

No. You are posting to the wrong support forum and need to post here http://wordpress.org/support/
