WordPress.com Editor not working correctly
-
There are four issues going on with the Editor.
(1) When I paste hyperlinked text into the newsletter I am working on and then click on the ‘Insert/edit link’ icon to select ‘Open link in a new window/tab,’ it automatically takes me to the top of the post rather than leaving me where the link I just added is.
(2) After I have done number one above, I have to scroll back to the place where I just pasted in the hyperlinked text and click at the end of the text and hold down the Ctrl + Home key to select the text and if the text is more than one line, I have to in addition still hold down the Crtl + Up Arrow key on the keyboard to finish selecting all the text. Then, I am able to select the color of the text that I want to use. I do not know why I have to jump through this hoop to get the text to the color I want to use. This is not the way this should work. I have tried to select all the text with my mouse pointer and change the text color and it does not work. So, I have to jump through this hoop and do it the way I have described above in order to get the text the color I want it to be. Is there a way to set the default text color without having to go through all these steps?
(3) I learned recently that I was using an old outdated theme called ‘Digg 3’ that is no longer comparable with all the new features in WordPress. So, yesterday (Sunday), I switched my theme to Colinear. The issues noted in items #1 and #2 above used to happen in the old theme I was using (Digg 3) and it is still doing the same thing with this new theme (Colinear). I have deleted all my Internet temporary files, restarted my computer and deleted all *.tmp files and *.chk files from my computer and it is still doing the same thing. Have I missed something?
(4) How do I control the font size in my new theme Colinear?
I look forward to getting feedback on these WordPress Editor issues.
Thank you and have a great day.

We may need some more information to help you out, but I’ll do my best to answer what I can, and go from there.
(1) This does seem to be the way the current editor is set up. Our developers, though, do listen to feedback on improvements. You can make suggestions to make WordPress better in the Ideas forum at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas
(2) You can toggle the Advanced Editing mode by clicking the three horizontal dots on the upper right corner of your editor (if the three dots are vertical, then the Advanced Editing is activated.) Then you can highlight the text with your mouse and click the arrow next to the Text Color icon (looks like a capital “A” with a line underneath it). You can then pick your text color.
(3) These are features of the editor, so I think everything is the same now.
(4) I’m not positive if you can directly control font size from within the default theme. Instead, paragraphs can be formatted based on the structure. Unfortunately I think the only way to control font size more specifically is by generating custom CSS. I’ll do some digging, though, and see if I can find a way to do it.
Hope this helps.

There is limited font control using the <font> tag if you use the HTML editor. You’ll need to be careful, though. If you switch back to visual editing before you save your changes, it may strip those tags.
Unfortunately, in this theme, that’s the only way I can find besides custom CSS to control font size for specific text. As I said above, though, you can change the font size of an entire line/paragraph by using the arrow next to where it says “Paragraph” at the top, then selecting the type of text you want.
Hope that helps.

Hi, all,
Just want to jump in and let you know that the link being added (1) and then jumping to the top of the editor was mentioned in another thread and they are looking into it. Subscribe to this thread to stay informed on that:

@erogers77 – one other option that could help you with adjusting fonts easier is the TinyMCE Advanced plugin. You can install that from the Plugins menu on your site.

@mikestraw
Note that http://thetorahtruths.wordpress.com/ does not appear to have a Business Plan upgrade so any information about plugins will confuse erogers77. -
@timethief, sorry about that. Yes, that’s correct. If you want to install an extra plugin you’d need to upgrade to the Business Plan.

I have a few questions.
1. In reference to #1 issue noted in this post. Is this happening to paid as well as non-paid customers? Or is this only happening to non-paid customers?
2. How much longer will it be before issue #1 is resolved. It have been over a week now.
3. On issue #2 noted originally in this post, no one has given any explanation as to why this process is necessary to change the text to the color I want it to be. Is there a better way to do this? Is there a way to set the default font color?
4. In reference to issue #3 in this post. I switched from my old retired theme of Digg 3 to Colinear. After I switched over to the new theme, everything went south. All my left and right side columns disappeared. I noticed as I scrolled through some of the previous post that some of the text is larger than others and some are smaller than others. When I originally posted using my old theme of Digg 3, I used the same Heading size which was Heading 3. After I switched over to the new theme of Colinear, the latest post I used Heading 4. I triple checked everything like I always do before clicking on the Publish button. All was okay. After I clicked on the Publish button, I saw the very same thing taking place. Some of the text is larger and some is smaller. It should ALL be the same height. What is going on here? I need some answers please.
5. In reference to issue #4 in this post. I still have not received an answer to how I can change the font size or how I can set the default font size. Again, I need some answers to this query as well as all the other issues going on with the WordPress editor.
I was under the impression that WordPress was run by professionals. What I am seeing is it appears to be run by armatures at best. I do not intend to be mean. I know what a professional organization looks like and how they operate and WordPress does not meet that criteria. A professional organization provides phone support as well as email support. I noticed on all the paid services it is email support only. This is not the mark of a professional organization. WordPress needs to come into the 21st Century.
I am willing to work with the programmer if they are willing to step up to the plate and work with me to address these issues in order to make WordPress stand out as a Class A platform to use for blogging, etc.
Again, will someone please provide answers to the above? I really like using WordPress. If I do not get timely answers, I will be forced to abandon WordPress all together and look at a different platform to produce my newsletter.
Thank you for your consideration to this request and have a great day.

Hi there,
The editor jumping is a known bug. It’s a bug with the editor, so which plan your site is on has nothing to do with it, nor has your theme. Our developers are working on the issue, but I can’t tell you when it will be fixed.
3. On issue #2 noted originally in this post, no one has given any explanation as to why this process is necessary to change the text to the color I want it to be. Is there a better way to do this? Is there a way to set the default font color?
The font colour on hyperlinks is a bug with the Core WordPress editor over on WordPress.org. We’re waiting on a fix from that end so we can implement it here. For now, please change text colour before you add hyperlinks.
If you have the Premium or Business Plan you can use custom CSS to change the default colours on your site.
All my left and right side columns disappeared
Are you referring to widget areas, or to the content of your posts? If widget areas, this is normal when switching themes, as themes don’t all have the same widget areas. If in your post content, please give a link to a post where this has happened and I can take a look.
Some of the text is larger and some is smaller. It should ALL be the same height. What is going on here?
Some of your text is wrapped in heading tags, and some of your text is not. In one theme an h4 tag might display at the same size as a regular paragraph, while in another theme the h4 tag might display significantly bigger, or smaller, than regular text. It all depends on how the theme designer chose to style it.
If you use heading tag to change the size of text (which you really shouldn’t do), this is going to happen if you switch themes. Heading tags are meant for headings, not to change text size. You need to use CSS for changing text size.
how I can change the font size or how I can set the default font size
Using custom CSS. You can also use inline CSS, but that needs to be added to every paragraph or link individually. You can see a tutorial another blogger wrote on how to do that here:
