WordPress.com Export does not function correctly. Missing Data.
-
I have tried about 15x to export my wordpress.com site so I can migrate it to the new self-hosted site, cupidslanding.org . Instead of exporting all data it exports appx 700k to 1 mb. The total storage used on the site is about 450 mb. This is incredibly frustrating. One people said just keep clicking on the export until it works. That did not fix it. This tools is exporting 4 of the 36 blog posts.
Please advise. Thank you :)The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@supramantt can you let me know which site you’re exporting from? We can try it on our end.

Hi,
I just received an email with an export which was only 132k zipped up. The total file size should be around 300-450mb. There are 450 mb of images on the server plus all of the other database content. Please advise. Thank you :) -
here are 450 mb of images on the server
Ahh. The export files do not include images. You’ll want to use these instructions to import at a new host:
https://move.wordpress.com/ -
Why did it include some images? The export files that I have downloaded previously included 4 images.
-
It should have just been an XML file. If you’ll use those steps you can import to a new site.
-
Also, I am confused. Where is the migrate images information on the move site? I have done all the steps I have seen. https://move.wordpress.com/exportimport-content/
I normally migrate from self-host to self host, not wordpress.com to self-host.

There’s a link to more information on WordPress.org: https://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#WordPress
It says you’ll have an option to import files. Use that. And if it times out, you can safely run the import again to catch any missing posts and files.
-
When I import that file, it hits this page: https://cupidslanding.org/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wordpress&step=2
Which does not render correctly. I believe it is attempting to import all of the images from the old site. The new site is hosted on dreamhost. -
And, you cannot safely import multiple times if an error occurs. Now all of the menus are there 4x due to me attempting to import 4 times.
-
Okay, menus can’t show up more than once and can be deleted pretty easily. You won’t get duplicate posts though (which are less easy to delete) so no worries there.
I can’t see what’s going wrong on the import page. You might ask for help in the WordPress.org forums, but you’ll want to be explicit about what error or other trouble you see there.

The export simply will not export all data. It only exports the first 4 posts from the beginning of 2016 and then 2 drafts. Because wordpress.com does not allow me to install my normal migration tools, I am really stuck.
-
Yes, I know how to rebuild the menu. That is very simple, the problem is that wordpress.com will not export all of the data from this website. I just read through the xml and found that all of the content is in it and so the wordpress.org installation is probably breaking the connection early and causing a mysterious error. I will keep looking and thank you for your feedback.
-
Yeah, I had tried importing it and got all of the posts.
Generally if you only get partial content, simply re-running the import again will work (even if you do have to clean up extra menus). Good luck!
